H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

Easy, their spouses are also from a well educated background and are employable. It's not that complicated.
The only complicated part is, how there resume's just popped out from 8K to 10K candidates..

I believe H1B visas should be limited to niche technologies only. L1 and B1 visas should also be restricted to a certain number in the tech sector. Indian workers and companies have exploited these facilities, affecting US tech workers. There should be a controlled ban on these visa types for the IT industry for the next 10 years. The biggest impact will be workers from India but so be it.
All that talent they are producing should be making India great again. Not some other country.

At least with these being cut back we will see the end of those shitty Hindu Nationalist parades in the US....Imagine living in a foreign land and pulling stunts like this.

Very few are born there.

Majority of H-1B holders are very talented, skilled, and almost everyone have master’s degree, which makes them attractive to companies.

However, I believe the issue is not with H-1B itself, but with the H-4 visa, which allows the spouses of H-1B holders to work (thanks to Obama). So, technically, Americans are losing two jobs(search your own to find out how may H4's are working).

There’s no way an H-1B holder can afford a million or half-million-dollar home, along with car payments and utility bills (not even counting groceries), unless there are two incomes.

Thanks,
Lol, you obviously don't hang out with the H1-B holders with the high -paying jobs in Silicon Valley and Wall Street. Several make 7 figures or even 8 figures.

Not all H-4 visa holders are allowed to work. Only the spouses of those who have been approved for green cards but can't get them because their priority dates are not current because of backlogs in their country quota.

I’ve been working in the IT industry for the last 25 years and know far more about the H1B process. On top of that, I also understand the entire pipeline process of pursuing admission in U.S. colleges ONLY for Master’s degree along with getting bank loan process on high interest rates just to join the H1B band wagon.

Plus, I am also aware about the dowry rates (which vary across different ethnicities and castes) if the boy is in the U.S. and working on an H1B.

Earlier, @Vikramaditya1 also tried to give the impression that all H4s are nothing but rocket scientists. Anyone with a little understanding of analytics can easily see that the hindustani posters are using the same textbook formula.

Here you are, cleverly trying to paint that all H1B holders are making 7–8 figures, which is quite disingenuous. Do you even know what 7-8 figures means?

Thanks,

Does not make one iota of difference whether we on pdf "like it or not".

Why do you insist on directing your appeals to us lowly simpletons?

What matters is whether US citizenry, represented by their President, and in the context of Modi having now publicly made his choice of attempting to lather up China in lieu of long established western relationships , will continue to tolerate the special favours meted out towards India at the expense of other foreign nationals.

Right now China is "peaceful". Two decades from now no one can vouch. Whether you like it or now USA and India have a vested interest in hedging themselves against China. That puts a floor on the relationship. Beyond that there are no special favors meted out to India. I like you to list them.

China has $500 billion trade surplus with USA. India's trade surplus is a fraction of that. Trump wants to end the trade deficits. Sooner or later he is going to address the deficit with China.

Modi can suck up all he wants to China. China is not buying Indian products or giving Indians jobs. It is like Pakistanis falling over each other to proclaim their higher than mountain deeper than ocean friendship to China. Of course they turn around for $1 billion from Arab Sheikh or a humiliating $3 billion IMF loan

A lot of Indians do not come by the MS degree mill route. Some of them do PhD in STEM fields. A lot of them come by inter-company transfers directly from India. Some of them come through these WITCH consulting companies. A good number are here because their spouses are here. I deal with all of them when I worked for a large company.

Look up ethnic composition of enclaves like Cupertino, Los Altos, Saratoga in Silicon Valley. Look up average house prices. All the buyers are Indians and Chinese Americans

In California, house prices & salaries are way higher than the rest of the country. Additionally, the cost of living in California is significantly higher as well.

I know many families who sold their single house in California and moved to Texas, where they were able to buy two or three houses for the same amount.

Can you please tell me the average IT engineer salary in CA vs TX?

Yeah, I know many people on visas who make over a million dollars a year and some who make over 10 million dollars. This is obviously total compensation and not just base salary and these people are all towards the top of their field.

I know many H1Bs also make under 100K/ year but there is a wide variation in quality as well as compensation, as there is with American permanent residents and US citizens.

I don't think anyone said people with H-4s are rocket scientists, but these are people who have cleared all significant hurdles to getting the green card and been in the US for over 10 years in many cases and Obama's EO just provided them the same rights to get a job in the US as permanent residents have. They still have to compete against Americans for jobs.

Everything you say is true

Look at Cupertino

70% Asian American (mainly Indian & Chinese) -- Almost same number of Indian and Chinese

median income - $230,000
median home price - $3.5 million

I will tell you this some Indians and some Chinese are making shitloads of money
You won't find too many Pakistani Americans in any of these neighborhoods. If they have present they would purchased their homes in 1980s or 1990s

Chances of restrictions on h1bs is extremely high. It is not meant to hurt India or Indians. Of course it will impact India negatively in the short run. It is protection for US citizens and legal residents.

In the long run it is opportunity for India to focus on other things

What is most likely is for it to become merit based -with salary as a proxy for merit. If Meta is willing to pay some H1B AI researcher a multi-million dollar salary, I think one can be reasonably confident that it is not because they are trying to save money by not hiring Americans.
