Do you have a reference to back up that claim? 10year shelf life for the missile makes little sense to me. Some components may need to be refurbished but the missile overall will have a much longer shelf life if the maintenance schedule is adhered to.
Its usually for bits like the batteries etc.

Mainly its the Rocket motor and warhead which develops internal cracks and lose performance.
The entire Maintenance manual of AAMRAAM is available online, you can search it and read it.

PAF utilized that window of opportunity and ordered 500 AMRAMs, they knew that US can turn around anytime and impose sanctions. Its not the same case with China.

These AMRAAMS came in Musharaffs time. We keep our assets in top shape but it worries me about their internal shelf life. I've never seen refurbishment or ocu sustainment RFP on these AMRAAMS.

Secondly, they are now just tier II missiles. Missile sensors, processing capacity and ranges have gone 2-3 times more. It's time to upgrade old F-16's and get AMRAAM-D's and move on to a 5th gen platform. Retire these F-16's when time comes. They've served us well.

The D version is expensive. But Pakistan has the C version in bulk.
Those are nearing the end of their Shelf life of 10 years. Don't know if US will provide the spares for refurbishment. Or has it happened already?

Likewise those have a Captive carry life or under the wing flying time of 1500 Hours , after which those need an overhaul.
I think the 350 million sustainment contract will cover the missiles shelf life too.....you just need to replace the consumable items and anything special like gas discharge cannisters, seals, grease, bearings if any etc.

D version has that price. Pakistan has C version.
I once visited the display stall of a contractor supplying cooling components for AAMRAAM . They had small Titanium cylinders on display. Those carried liquified gas at very high pressure, inside the AAMRAAM.
At certain time during the flight the bottle discharged , flooding the electronics with liquid gas, cooling components.
Just the bottles were stupid expensive. Then the actuators and other systems.
So in my opinion , the price tag does make sense.
That's how they sell their manjan......western parts and equipment is well overpriced.......i work routinely with such components, some of which are pretty high fi.....such as a safety instrumented control system CPU....which costs as much as a 125 yds villa in bahria town karachi.......

The problem is, due to reliability concerns you have to to order only from them........not that theirs are 100% reliable always.

I work with OEM equipment such as from Parker Hannifin, Meggitt, Bently Nevada, Bosch Rexroth, GE-MOOG etc. Same companies make products for aero space and defense. For example MOOG makes hydraulic servos for power turbines.....also makes servos for F-16s/F-18s etc. Their parts are always 2-3 times more expensive than equivalent Chinese ones. Just a way to keep their cash cows running.

Wrong thread to talk about U.S missiles. Go to F-16 section

"both fully armed in complete air-to-air configuration" is an incorrect statement. The shot of the Jf-17C was a close up of the front fuselage only, wings not visible.
