To be honest, a lot of average people in tech have been significantly overpaid relative to people with similar intelligence and work ethic in other industries. With the advent of AI, that arbitrage is disappearing . We have seen that in other industries like high finance earlier.

I would definitely not advice young people these days to get an "IT" degree just for career prospects unless they are really intersted in the subject or have the ability to be a top researcher and be a real innovator .

That is what most IT bigshots are saying. What we need is a lot more basic engineers, scientists etc who know where to use IT/AI etc- for instance chemists/chemical engineers inventing new molecules or new processes, pharmacologists/doctors finding new drugs etc

Well, he is certainly not "mine", but AI will increasingly take up programming/tech jobs jobs that were previously considered safe. Only a few years ago, IDEs could "write" code only in scripted/ very high level languages like Visual Basic. Then they moved to "real" programming languages like Python/C# and now AI can write very efficient low level code in C++. Just "programing " is no longer a highly in-demand skill. You need real domain expertise.

Deep knowledge of CS principles is still valuable, but most CS graduates work as pure programmers. So, top computer scientists will still be in very high demand. It is just that the field would be far more competitive and fewer people would be needed in industry. Programming will certainly get commoditised

Offshoring to India was strategically opened for India under Clinton, carried over by subsequent administrations under Bush, Bush, Obama.
Every large American company has hundreds of indians working in technology.
That was a strategic move by US policy makers. Indians were pampered and jobs were doled out, h1b, offshoring.
Now, all this offshoring, both technology and manufacturing, badly hurting US economy and people.
In reaction, Trump is taking another extreme. Tariffs, and deportations.
