Amazon's Zoox has launched their new fully driverless ride-hailing service in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is known for gambling, but would you bet your life on a robotaxi? If your answer is yes, you have a new option as Amazon’s Zoox has officially launched its new service in Sin City.

The move comes after months of testing and rides can be booked for free, through the Zoox app. This will enable riders to easily travel on and around the Las Vegas Strip.

Zoox indicated that riders will only be able to choose from “several destinations” rather than traveling anywhere they like. For now, that list includes Resorts World Las Vegas, AREA15, Topgolf, and a few other resort and entertainment properties, keeping the focus on high-traffic attractions rather than the entire city.

Where You Can Go

Speaking of destinations, Resorts World Las Vegas and AREA15 have dedicated pickup and drop-off areas as well as a Zoox Concierge. They’ll “welcome you, walk you through the app, and answer questions, ensuring your first ride feels effortless.”

To help ensure riders get on the right robotaxi, the license plate number will be shown in the app as will estimated pickup times. The app will also show real-time arrival updates as well as post-ride summaries with options to provide feedback.

Zoox is particularly interested in the latter as they know the launch is critical, so they want people to become familiar with the service and “share their feedback with us before we scale.” Free rides should help drive interest, although the company noted they’ll eventually charge for them in the future.

Since autonomous driving technology isn’t foolproof, riders can get assistance in the app if something goes wrong. There’s also a dedicated help button on the interior display.

Zoox said they’re the first company to provide a “fully autonomous ride-hailing service in a purpose-built robotaxi.” CEO Aicha Evans added, “Las Vegas is a city famous for unforgettable moments, and it is the ideal location for our debut. Zoox is about transforming the entire ride-hailing experience, making every ride a delightful experience.”

Amazon Just Launched Its Zoox Robotaxis In Las Vegas And We Took A Ride

Interesting. I watched a Marques Brown video on Robotaxis some 30 minutes ago! Having a custom design makes a lot of sense. Easier to design to place all the required sensors in the best locations without compromise.

I do wonder what the Mirpuri diaspora in the uk will do once cars like this come online in the UK.

That makes 3 players with access to lots of money to burn.

@Hamartia Antidote , why dont you post something useful such as on new discoveries, breaking science and technology news or something interesting, rather than acting like a salesman for Amazon, Tesla, Nvidia and Apple.

Not a day goes by that I am forced to see a new thread regarding these 4 companies. It's just bloody individual company news.

Or I could promote this, in the military forum, when he appeared, I as a military fan, I couldn't understand how far China's technology has developed.

oh I see you mean something more useful like the other threads in this forum that you have conveniently forgotten to reply to with the same message:

I see I should act like a salesman for facts that are as equally useless.

But you can easily hear about another HSR line or subway station in some far off city you never heard of.

Yes, Chinese national rise is exciting for the whole world, new American gadets and gimmicks aren't.

You mean gimmicks like the internet, smartphones, computers , and that web browser you are likely using..that make an actual difference in your life vs "Country A uses 33% Y for energy production vs 34% Y last year" which has been the main headline for the last 25 years that won't even help you buy a cup of coffee.

Name some new technology and science that has actually made a difference versus just a fleeting statistic.
