Amazing. In English!View attachment 149340
The other day my sister sent me this. My report card from class 2 or 3. Look at the subjects we had to pass. I'm 7 years old. No tv no Internet etc. Just the school books. My mom used to buy a magazine called Look and Learn. That was the earliest from of Internet for me.
Nowadays kids watch tv in class and sit in front of the desktop computer. It's all very easy and getting easier.
I'm not sure I want to know why you were a guest of the County.LOL!
Last week was lock up in the county jail until I can bond out.
Inmates were very kind, looked after me.
Next day donated board games and a copy of the Koran to the county jail library.
Link opened. Will sit back and read shortly. The dawn of the post-literate society
And the end of civilisation

Read and weep.

Yes I agree, but most folks have little time and interest for comprehensive analysis. This whole thing started as you may have surmised from the venn diagram of "English history" and "Saladin" with Richard (and John and a certain mysterious outlaw)… in that I was visiting friend and his kid was playing Minecraft and prattling about Robin Hood for some reason and said something that tickled me. The "snapshot" story just appeals psychologically, as I proceeded to give a half hour or so summary (my friend didn't know much about the backdrop but was genuinely interested in "the real story") from beginning to end about Richard, John (I added bit of the Henrys before and after and Edward too since Braveheart got mainstreamed in popular thinking recently)...crusades, ransoms, wars in France, Popes, excommunications, taxes et al. (and what this all ironically heralded for later) and then the Baron rebellions along with the magna carta role in forming the Robin Hood "John BAD, Richard GOOD" reductive but appealing mythos to begin with. i.e That it fits well into the Baron's later perspective and influence in the "Tudor restart" after the war of the roses hence its popularization and mainstreaming around that time.
To actually do a comprehensive analysis of say the Angevin Empire's losses on mainland France impacting what it did in Baron resentment towards already high extraction from Richard and now John on top (with John especially having nothing to show for it and kind of going out of his way in being a jerk to them as well) leading to the Magna Carta (and it also not being something comprehensive regd all folks, but rather limited....but an important precedent set regd eroding and defining the monarch's executive power vs other power in the system etc).
But where is the fun in that for most folks? The kid had turned back to playing Minecraft while we were chatting and later he will naturally be drawn to more Robin Hood stuff just like I was back in the day. To go into more granular and comprehensive read into history, that needs interest, time invested etc heh and then other things compete for that, most are fine with reductive summary and "good enough", so "incident" snapshots and stories/mythos capture imagination as they do easier.
Two showings for our PHX area house scheduled for tomorrow. Dropped price a bit. Agent suggested dropping even further. He's obviously wanting to "move" the house. Mrs. AZ was very clear with him.
It will sell. But not at terms that end up costing us close to $100K.
Where abouts? My Tempe office was right off Washington and Center St. Then we relocated to Rio Salado Parkway just east of then west of Priest.PHX nice. I lived in Tempe for a while, fond memories.

Outstanding! I too am a Motorola veteran. Prior to a great career at DHL, was with Motorola. We had an office in the 'Tuk; right off 51st Street and Elliot. Had many a lunch over at Costco. I know that area like the back of my hand.heh this was when I was a kid ~ mid 90s summer holidays...visiting my dad who was working at Motorola. That period of time I was growing up in Hong Kong (again Motorola and dad heh).
His place was around McClintock drive, around guadalupe/elliot.
Visit to grand canyon was highlight for me that summer lol.
