The positive for Iran is China Russia have used some diplomatic pressure to defend Iran, Pakistan for some reason was being aggressive, so they have some support in this part of the world and have those who don't want Iran to be destroyed, the economic interests are another advantage. If only Iran is willing to tone down their aggressive stance to a diplomatic one, continue to work with international players on nuclear energy, then slowly win Chinese Russian support to remove sanctions, build a good military force to defend themselves. I can't see any other way out for Iran.

I don't entirely disagree with your comment that Iran stands no chance of winning this without nuclear deterrence, but there is no diplomatic solution to this problem.

It is either unconditional surrender and defeat, or resistance and madman policy.

If it were up to me, I would've chosen the madman policy until the West decides to reach a new deal. Iran has the best card against the West due to its location, but the Ayatollahs are too stupid to take advantage of it.

It’s actually the only way Iran will ever be integrated into Western world.

This isn’t about nuclear weapons, missiles, etc. because Saudi Arabia and Turkey have both nuclear production (and Saudi Arabia is asking for enrichment on its soil) and longer and longer missile development programs.

This is about Iran not recognizing Israel.

Iran’s foreign policy was not shrewd or covert at the onset of Revolution. Israel actually sold Iran arms during the Iran-Iraq war and so did the U.S. but Iran was vehement against any sort of detente with either party let alone economic prosperity.

If Iran never took US embassy hostages and never explicitly was hostile toward Israel, it could have first built up its economy (and military) until it was powerful enough and so integrated into the world economy that cutting it off would be like cutting of your own arm. Then it could set its own foreign policy. But by showing your hand from the onset that you think America is the DEVIL and Israel is apartheid then what did you expect? You don’t think China thinks the same? But at least Chinese have more than two brain cells to know you can’t build your country when you are overtly hostile and you don’t have the upper hand.

Instead, from the onset Iran forced the US to decouple from Iran in 1980 and forced Europe to decouple in early 2000’s. Now you see what that result has brought. No resistance economy, no pivot East, no nothing. Domestic Currency is 100x weaker than 20 years ago.

This is why religious fanatics shouldn’t be involved in geopolitics.

So what Trump says isn’t far fetched. As long as Iran doesn’t accept Israel, it will stay under this sanctions and maybe even future wars. I am not saying recognizing Israel will get Iran free or prosperity, but not recognizing Israel means no deal will ever be made with a Republican president.
