It is far more complicated than that..Syrian armed forces did very well on the front..but they didn't have enough air-defense missiles at that time to hold their advanced conquered positions.. and Israel took advantage of that and used mainly its air-force..

The war of all Arabs

After the huge US logistical and weapons supply to Israel.. the Arabs supported Egypt and Syria..

The opening:

Egypt: Crossed the Suez Canal on the 6th and destroyed the famous Barlev line, the liberation of part of the Sinai, under the political leadership of President Anwar Sadat, and the coordination of the attack with Syria.

Syria: Launched a massive attack on the Golan Front to liberate its occupied territory, forcing Israel to fight on two fronts at the same time.

What followed:

Saudi Arabia: Waged the battle for the oil weapon of King Faisal's decision to cut oil to the countries supporting Israel (America and Europe), which caused a global crisis and major political pressure.

Algeria: Military forces and fighter plane swarm (MIG-21 and MIG-17) participated in the battles, in addition to important financial aid to Egypt and Syria.

Iraq: Sent land forces, tanks and MiG-21 aircraft to the Syrian front for their support against Israel.it also participated in the air battles over Sinai with Egypt

Jordan: Symbolic forces participated on the Syrian front, coordinated with Egypt and Syria politically.

Kuwait: It provided great financial support, and sent a military unit to the Egyptian front.

Libya: Military planes were sent and financially supported Egypt and Syria.

Morocco: Sent a military brigade to the Syrian front, and participated in the fighting alongside the Syrian army.

Other Arab countries (Emirates, Sudan, Tunisia, Bahrain etc.):
They provided financial, logistical and media support, and contributed to the Arab public mobilization.

So Omar Sharif went to the embassy in Paris and requested to speak with Begin, the Prime Minister. He asked him, "If Sadat comes to you, how will he be received?" Begin replied, "We will receive him like the Messiah."
