PAF J-10CE News, Updates and Discussion

Its good to know that PL12 can be carried under belly but PL-15 has the first shoot advantage so becomes a weapon of choice for air combat. The threat level of PL-15 keeps the enemy a/c at distance from the borders.

It just brings the question of future of PL-12 within PAF.
I see the point you are making, but I suggest patience and keep an eye out for future outlook. Keep in mind that both the PL-12 and PL-15, in terms of development timetables, are fairly rushed products caught in the hasty PLAAF modernization efforts where it’s less about having a conservatively sized munition and then squeeze every last inkling of performance potential out of it by adopting the best propellent, weight and drag reduction method possible(like AMRAAM and JATM with the 7inch diameter frames), but using mature technology in a generously sized design, come up with something that is combat ready now instead of in the next decade.

I know PL-15 have been stealing the show at the moment for obvious reasons, but PL-12 as it is, is still more competitive than most of the IAF arsenal save for the meteor perhaps, and in itself is a very very sizable projectile that is both larger in diameter and longer than the AMRAAM. It is entirely within China’s capability (and interest) to continuously improve the PL-12 platform, such as adopting a low-drag finless aerodynamic layout like the JATM and PL-17, composite bodies and improved propellent formula, and arrive at a product that is both very very competitive in performance but is also far more adaptable.

Say belly can carry 2 missiles, PL15/PL12/LD-8A.

Not sure whether LD-8A can be carried at PL10's hardpoint.

The LD-8A anti-radiation missile for UAVs and manned platforms. – Length: 3200mm – Diameter: 180mm – Weight: 130kg – Warhead weight: 30kg

The JF17 Block 2'(all upgraded to this standard now) will still require the PL-12 unless PAF does some interim upgrade to make the PL15 compatible on them.

Talked about future of PL-12, not current application or compromise.

sir when why its taking time?
it depends on the order if we have the order of 36 with 20 firm in place or 16 option to purchase from the batch in production.

as @Deino informed they do have manufacture batch of 24 - real question is how much is for Uzbekistan and can Pakistan Utilize 16 options to firm order.

Then comes the money!

what i think has happened we first ordered 36 J-10CE but due to financial situation converted the order to 20 with 16 options that can be utilise in near future.

from the funds saved we ordered 40 x JF17 Block 3 of which only 24 entered service which the next 16 which were to enter PAF were Fast tracked to Export to Azerbijan.

We had not foreseen Indian war in near future at that time.

hence we are stuck with 20 x J-10CE and 24 x JF17 Block 3

By the way there is a guy on PDF who keep the serial numbers record as hobby. he can tell i think he goes by @Pakistan Space Agency

Apart from 15th Sqd, which other 3 Sqds should get J-10 ?

FT-7 is not good enough as trainer ?
It appears that Mirages are being retired first, that too the tactical attack ones, so I believe #25 is next. But at the same time PAF is hoarding these Mirages with #50 sqn. but for what purpose??

so you mean there is no upgrade from 2024 to 2025. I dont think it is possible. Some people with highly reputed say that Pak has more than 180 jf 17 thunder.

Sqd No.7 have Mirage III and Sqd No. 17 have F-7s. The CCS Sqd No. 23 with F-7 should also go. These three seem the first three contenders.

Sdq No.25 and Sqd No.27 are H2 and H4 carriers, I doubt they will go first.

Sqd No.50 is just a place to keep all Mirages as they get replaced.

Total are 175 produced to date. This includes 6 prototypes, 8 for Myanmar and 3 for Nigeria.

This data is based on publicly verifiable information. The air force may have acquired more, I don't know.

Until I see a photo/video of the serial, I don't add it to my list.
