Iranian Air Force (IRIAF/IRGC-ASF) | News and Discussions

Russia has very few friends in the world, and Iran is one of them. Russia has not always been the best of friends(or has Iran) but Russia cannot afford to have Iran turned into a chaotic Syria. That would hurt Russian interests. Ukraine is manageable for Russia and given how many supplies the Americans supply to Israel, the idea that Israel has anything that can make a material difference to the Ukrainian war is an empty bluff..
Ha ha , let's officially alienate Russia...... netayouhou is very confident !

This newest most Russian leak on X is giving the same numbers that BT reported 2 years back.

60 x SU-35SE+SU-30SM
24 MIG-29SMT/M2 (old airframes MLUed/upgraded)
30 SU-24MK2 (old airframes MLUed/upgraded)
30 YAK-130 ATs

the leak I saw only referred to 48 su-35, nothing about su-30

BT said 48 SU-35SE and 12 old/used SU-30SM will serve as their advance combat trainers, being 2 seaters. He is a real person or not, his scoop on IRIAF is credible.
reasonable numbers, and Babak is somewhat reliable for this stuff. just a shame no SU-57 were added

we need a platform to launch ALBM at Israel from over Iraq and to intercept Israeli jets over Iraq

If they can manage to produce ~70 Kowsars as CAS/CAP/ATs as initially planned and bargain more MIG-29M/35 from Russian to a fleet of 50-60, the air arm can provide some level of coverage.

IRIAF practically needs 200 new Multi role Air-superiority jets (SU-35S, F-15E class).

Call me mad if you will but I see ~30 being ordered around 2028-29. Region will start filling up with 5th gen so its only logical for IRIAF to move towards 5th gen from 4.5 SU-35S as its hypothetical front lead. If this is not in their plans then they are fools ordering only 60 Flankers.

Mind you, Russia or IRI itself may cancel it all anytime so its all just words at this point.

60 Flankers is a fair level number for above Iraq interception because both SU-35S and SU-30SM can launch R-37 and wear Khibiny ECCM pods. It can be like IRIAF's F-14A fleet during Iraq war which destroyed Saddams AF.

ALBM intention is not there otherwise whats stopping them from testing IRGCAF hanger unveiled ALBMs from SU-24MK or few Dowran upgraded F-4E/D. If they can lift and drop large Ghader AShCM, they can sure be used for ALBM launch.

If Iran would smart they would also secure 72 J10C from China

While the Mirage29 and Sukhoi-30 Series is decent acquisition

Need to get secure the Chines Craft so polish up the airforce

1st choice : Su-35 with 4 squadrons apparently
2nd : J-10 in unknown number
3rd : Mig-29, I hope at least 6 squadrons (~72 + spare aircrafts)
4th : upgrade all Su-24 + accelerate indigenous programs

Well, at long, long, long, last...

I really did not think that I would get to see something like this.

Hope it does not go the way other Iranian hi-end weapons went.

What drew my attention was the English translation which inter alia noted ....... An image of an upgraded Doran F4 fighter jet, this version equipped with a radar, landing at Mehrabad. As it turns out, it is testing a missile similar to the Chinese PL-15, which is strangely loaded with an intermediate pylon........ .

Which radar might the poster be referring to?

And the new AAM?

Would be better if we can get the Yak130 in the Yak130M version. Improved upgrades that make it a useful platform for training and light combat/patrol duties.
Yak130M should replace all F7, F1, and F5 jets.

You're late with the news of the F-4 improvements. It fits in with my predictions and what some people I follow say, but wait for the rest... New products to come. Kowsar, F-313 manned version and a new one that has already been shown in model form, which one will it become? I'm not necessarily talking about the HESA Shafaq but in the same vein, reconfiguration. The purchase of external aircraft does not prevent the production of interiors.
