Can´t believe UAE (569 billion) and Malaysia (470 billion) sit higher then Pakistan, Iran and Egypt

should look at PPP for more accurate picture, not USD nominal numbers

GDP PPP (IMF):

- Indonesia: $5.02 trillion
- Turkey: $3.77 trillion
- Saudi: $2.69 trillion
- Egypt: $2.38 trillion
- Iran: $1.88 trillion
- Pakistan: $1.67 trillion
- Malaysia: $1.48 trillion
- UAE: $0.93 trillion
- Qatar: $0.38 trillion

Egypt seems to be underperforming considering it has 120 million population and no sanctions

Indonesia has 280 million population so makes sense it is the largest economy

Iran would be Turkey++ without 50 years of US economic embargo and incompetent government, as Iran has the 5th most valuable mineral reserves of any country in the world

updated numbers here (GDP PPP instead of GDP PPP as a percentage of global GDP PPP)

Yup it is mostly due to the huge depreciation of Rupiah this year that almost reach 17, 000 Rupiah per USD. For many years Indonesian Rupiah is around 14, 000 Rupiah per one USD

But the weakend is pretty much manageable, alhamdulillah, and could make us in advantage to compete in this new trade environment with US imposed tarrif and more protectionist global trade tendency

Indonesia population - 280 million
Pakistan population - 250 million

Indonesia GDP PPP - $5 trillion
Pakistan GDP PPP - $1.67 trillion

considering neither country has major mineral reserves, it's quite impressive from Indonesia. although you benefit from existing in a more peaceful neighbourhood than Pakistan and other countries on this list.

Peaceful is created. You know Indonesia in early 1960 was trying to invade both Malaysia and Singapore (Malaya). British and Australian then help them militarily.

We change our course after Soeharto take the lead, despite under him there is another invasion to East Timor

But after that, we prefer to have good relationship with our neighboor because it is good for economic development

But of course it is because Rahmat Allah that we won revolution war that make us can have big nation. With so many Sultanates that cooperate with Dutch, we will be divided and would likely become much smaller countries under Kingdomship if we get freedom after WW2 peacefully from Dutch.

IMO Pak has done very badly. In the 60s it was projected to be an Asia tiger economy abit like what South Korea is but corruption, bad politics, lack of investment in education infrastructure (comes back to bad management) has put Pak way behind.

With Irans hydrocarbon wealth and highly educated population without the sanctions I really do believe Iran economy wise would be close to France or higher.

your neighbours are also not comparable to Pakistan's neighbours, not even in 1960s. Singapore is not the Taliban and Osama bin Laden

there is no doubt about this. Iran was the world's fastest growing economy in the years before the revolution (and US sanctions) in 1979

Iran has a very large population and industrial base (like Turkey) plus hydrocarbon wealth (like Saudi). unfortunately stymied by largest brain drain in the world, global economic embargo, and incompetent leaders.

The GCC 8th largest economy in the world judging by those numbers. Not bad. Add the almost 5 trillion USD in sovereign wealth funds alone, let alone natural/mineral resources where KSA alone is the 3 richest nation on the planet.

What could have been if KSA/GCC/Arabia was 1 single nation/entity like many times before in history.

Yemen alone is quickly approaching 50 million people and by 2050 is expected to have close to 100 million people.

Anyway impressive by Turkey but helps being closely integrated with the European market (for the past 100 years) and having almost 90 million people. Still not sure how it can be this high when Turkey has a continuous trade deficit almost every single year.

Yup true. Rahmat Allah. But it doesnt mean Pakistan cannot become powerful economically. We can see South Korea situation for instant

Malaysia get huge benefit from semi conductor investment from US companies for decades

Its export around 300 billion USD per year (almost comparable with its total GDP) where semi conductors are the dominant portion of its total export

They also has much oil and gas (relative to its low population) that is essential to build much of its infrastructure in its beginning period (Petronas SOE), and with having relatively big land in mainland SEA and Borneo Island that enable them to be second biggest producer of Palm Oil within vast agriculture land
