It’s possible that Pakistan is engaging in the current round of negotiations sincerely, perhaps as a last real attempt to give peace a chance. There might also be an element of optics involved, particularly to demonstrate to the GCC and other partners that Islamabad isn’t the obstacle to regional stability.

That said, I doubt the peace will hold for long. If the situation with Afghanistan deteriorates further, Pakistan might openly back efforts toward a regime change. It might be messy, but we need a more calibrated attempt with anti Taliban elements to reshape the political landscape to our advantage which might be easier said than done. I wonder where China stands in all this.

No one rushes into war the way some posters here would have you believe from their infantile understanding of it. Calculus of all sorts is being done right now, military, political, and economic, both considering and not considering the possible outcomes of the talks.

War is politics by other means.

Pakistan is looking for specific political outcomes, if it gets them, then there is no need to carry on with a war, if not, then war it is.

Pakistan wants to show it is trying to engage the process and giving the Taliban a chance especially with the Middle East who provide a lot of funding to Pakistan. Pakistan cannot really ignore them.

Pakistan cannot destroy the TTP unless it does a full invasion, it wants the Taliban to do it. If they can, that is good. If they cannot or will not, the Pakistan has to move to destroy both the Taliban and the TTP, and that will require Pakistani armed forces moving into Afghanistan. That is expensive.

Yes, the Taliban are namak harami’s, but given the materials required for an invasion, there is room for caution and time to see if politics can fix this.

Let’s see what happens next.

now if during the cease fire we are taking these hits (KP Terror watch) its not looking good, on top of that we are quiet and not blaming TTA for these,

This approach is not serving us any good.

TTA will claim, see its Pak Internal matter we are being blamed is unjustified.

We need to learn so much....
