Old Man's Corners

Very annoyed at the moment. Little over 2 weeks ago we submitted paperwork for HOA approval to build a shed in the backyard. Had all the paperwork filled out., etc. Even discussed with the community manager that the neighbor to the east of us will never see the shed because of the elevation difference of the two lots. They are well below us. Had the approval from the neighbor to the north.

This morning, still no approval. The "architectural coordinator" says she's still waiting on the neighbor approval. Never mind she's been on all the correspondence. Reminded her of that. Community manager also reminded her, again, that approval from the east neighbor was not needed.

To reinforce the point, I sent a photo showing where the shed would go and where the neighbor to the east is located. All you see is the roof line. Only time they would see our shed is if they get up on their roof.

My skull hurts. It really does. And to think I used to manage the design and development of our distribution centers in the Americas.

It's taking longer to get approval than the time it would take to build it.
Bureaucrats will always create unnecessary hurdles

Photo sent to the HOA showing where the shed would go and the neighbor behind me (looking east).

Existing shed to the left is north. That neighbor has already signed off on us building one:

Purple tree in the center of the photo is a plum tree. We get very sweet plums off it.

Luckily, our town ignores lot of things with respect to the home buildings, but property tax is way high.. By the way, I have frozen property tax at 65.

Technically, we were supposed to obtain our permit for an accessory shed from the town first before seeking approval from the HOA.

Accessory permit fee is $10, can obtain on line.

HOA review fee is $50. If I wanted to add an addition to the house, it would only be $25. Bizarre.

Anyway, if they bring that up, my response will be "why would I get a permit from the town for an accessory structure only to have you reject it?" Why be out $60 total?

As it is, in the photo above, the shed next door is "illegal" CCRs clearly state no plastic sheds. It was there when we bought the house. That was almost 15 years ago.

ALCS goes back to Toronto. Seattle won; 6-2. Grand slam put it away for the Mariners.

LA currently up over the Brewers 3-0.

*EDGAR'S PARTY*
================
Edgar, a 96-year-old man, says to his son:
- Baby... (the child is 62).
- Yes, Dad! Tell me.
- I want to have a get-together with my friends and I'd like you to help me organize it.
- Sure, Dad. Don't worry, I'll help.
- Help me with what?
- The party, Dad!!!
- Ohhh yes!!! I'd already forgotten!

That afternoon, the son calls his father into the kitchen and shows him a sheet of paper stuck to the refrigerator, instructing him.

1st - Serve coffee.
2nd - Serve sandwiches.
3rd - Serve soft drinks and beverages.
4th - Serve the cake.

- Excellent. Now I won't have any more problems.

- Thank you, my son!

That afternoon, the friends arrived. None of them were under 80.

Edgar, a good host, shows them the dining room and goes to the kitchen.

And reads:

1st - Serve coffee.
And he brings coffee to his friends.

After a while of talking, Edgar, nervous, goes to the kitchen and reads again:

1st - Serve coffee.
And he pours more coffee for them...

It went on like this, four times.

Finally, the friends leave.

One of them whispers to the other as they leave the building:
"Tito, did you notice? What a terrible host Edgar is... He didn't even give us coffee!!!"

Tito replies:
"Edgar? What are you talking about?"

That night, Edgar's son returns to his father's house and is surprised to see that the sandwiches, drinks, and cake are untouched. He asks his father:

"Dad. What happened?"

* Edgar replies:
"My son, you won't believe it!" They didn't come...

Moral of the story:
- *LET'S MEET NOW, WHILE WE STILL REMEMBER AND RECOGNIZE EACH OTHER...*

Send this to your friends before you forget who they are.

*HAPPY ACCUMULATED YOUTH DAY*

A friend just sent it to me, but I don't remember who.

Rams are beating the jags in the 1st half

Got home yesterday and decided to see what was on TV. Our service provider is DirecTV. As a perk for being a loyal customer, they are offering the NHL Ticket free of charge for the 2025-26 season! Of course I signed up for it. Second time now they've offered it. Past offerings have included the NFL and NBA, both of which were hard passes for me, as well as MLB.

Up to 40 out-of-market games per week. Which means I'll be able to watch the Penguins at least 3 times a week now and possibly the Golden Knights. Local market here has decided to backfill the loss of the Coyotes to Utah with VGK.

I had NFL international for a couple of years and could see most of the games live. That meant that I was awake all night from 10pm to roughly 4am. Didn't work out too well. Hence now I watch the highlights or condensed games on tape delay. BTW the NFL app was expensive for my pocket

Have a couple of friends who have the NFL and ESPN apps. Can't understand why they would pay for that.
