China' navy is now 3 million tons. In 2024, China's navy military expenditure was $69.3 billion, of which $63. billion was used for the daily maintenance expenditure of navy personnel and warships. In 2024, China's military expenditure was $231.3 billion, 1.3% of GDP. If the navy's warships increase to 11 million tons, the military expenditure should be $401. billion, which only accounts for 2.2% of GDP.

Another thing is the new asymmetric threats. Something needs to be developed to take out unmanned kamikaze sea drones like Magura which are the equivalent of fpv drones against tanks. Russian ships have almost zero protection against these types of drones. Sometimes they are taken out by helicopters but many times the ships are getting hit and they cannot do anything about it. You can easily put a naval blockade on taiwan for example but Magura is the fpv of the seas and the blockade will be broken with a very high cost. Russia was a tank superpower before the fpvs now it is not.

I mentioned in another thread as well jamming is a temporary solution. It needs to be there but it cannot be the only trusted solution. Submarines are better protected as these drones target surface vessels. Underwater kamikaze drone to target submarines is possible but is more difficult they need continious data transfer from satcom for longer range hits and check its sensors. Stealthy smaller boats are more survivable than larger warships. Also China can come up with its own version of Magura with satcom that can be deployed from submarines or stealth boats and target enemy surface ships or supply ships to enforce a blockade. In current condition ships are in the same situation as Russian tanks in Ukraine fields.

This isn’t the flex you think it is. T-72As are the last T-72s they can pull from storage, and most are in terrible shape. They’ve already run through the majority of their T-72Bs

- Maneuvers of the defenses and changing their positions were to no avail, as the Ukrainian air defense lacks ammunition to repel combined attacks.

- Ukraine did not raise F-16 fighters for interception (which had not happened previously), out of fear for the aircraft.
