Newly launched units of the Type 052DG destroyers are fitting out at China's Dalian Shipyard. Like the Type 052DL, the 052DG retains the long helipad to optimise the operation of the Z-20F/J naval helicopters. However, the 052DG improves on its defensive capabilities against sea-skimming missiles, by having a more powerful Type 368 X-band surface search radar.
Four Type 052DGs have already been commissioned, bringing the total for the Type 052D class to 29 ships. At least 10 more Type 052DGs are believed to be forthcoming.

The Type 368 X band radar is the much awaited upgrade. When is it expected to be installed? Now we just need to see either improved HQ-10 missiles or some quad packed ESSM like missiles to cover sea skimmers.
Btw, Eurasian naval insight shutdown his YouTube channel. A tragedy, but he seems to be up on a different channel taking about optimizing destroyer designs.

It will be interesting to see if the latest Type 052DG will be able to carry the new Tilt rotor in the ASW and AEW role for surface task forces. Better guidance for weapons carried in the UVLS; rocket powered torpedoes and SAMs respectively. Not to mention the potential for anti shipping.

Once project “AH” aka Type 004 or the first Chinese CVN is further along in construction, it will reveal the power of the nuclear propulsion. If reports of 120K ton carrier, it might need 4-6 reactors of 200-300 MW each, accordingly to reports, considers a 100k ton Nimitz has somewhere around 1050 MW of total power, and the Ford is at 1400 MW.
Considering the importance of escorts that can keep up, have the electrical power for the most powerful radars, EW, and laser weapons as well as possibly rail-guns, is it likely we will see a Type 055 derivative that is nuclear powered? Powered by 1-2 of these 200-300 MW reactors.
A fast fleet of a CVN, 2-3 of these Nuclear destroyers and 1-2 SSNs could operate at sustained speeds of over 30 knots all the way to trouble zones in defense of SLOCs. All ships that could be made large enough to carry its own stored and not need replenishment at sea via a fleet replenishment ship.
