I can guarantee, if this forum remains, 10 years down the road people will still be talking about what Karachi could have been. 18th amendment has been the death knell for Karachi. There is no going back. Karachi will remain as it is. One of the largest and most backward cities in the world and it is only the provincial government that is responsible for its diminishing value.

There won't be a separate province, local bodies will not be allowed to operate with any sense of empowerment and the citizens will continue to suffer. This is the reality of the situation. In the past we blamed MQM (80s and 90s), now the baton has been passed to PPP (since early 2000s) and they have left no stone unturned to make the city absolutely unlivable and my own take is that it is by design.

The past 3 decades have proven that petty, ethnic interests reign supreme, Karachi's citizenry be damned.

They should build a new port city, plan it properly and make sure PPP or JUI or any of these incompetents are not in charge.

You would requires tens of trillions of rupees, decades old timeline to construct a workable gwadar city and port.

This is not even including the cost for the infrastructure needed to connect the new city to old ones so an economic chain is established.

Federal takeover of karachi is a decades old need that should've been fulfilled by now.

The problem is that if the federation comes down hard on the provincial government, the next day "Sindhudesh" bakvas will start. PPP are already using the ethnic card in this regard.

The cashcow will never be surrendered by the PPP easily. Just like MQM were collecting bhatta through gangsters, PPP does it through its provincial ministers and the mayor of Karachi. They just don't call it "bhatta-khori" but in spirit and impact, it is the same and more.

Who do u consider competent.. Yes, PPPP is the most corrupt and Karachi hater but JUI I doubt. I am a karachite, not a JUI supporter, Infact I am no party supporter but Naimat ullah khan did tremendous work and to some extent MQM Mustafa kamal too. Karachi needs Karachi children’s to rule, secure and prosper not some wadeera mindset crooks..

And yes Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, combined, should be a separate province not part of Sindh..

There are a million solutions to the Karachi problem. The establishment (rightfully) rigged a clear majority of PTI but still gave all the constituencies to PPP.

Why didn't they give the government to an amateur Jamat-e-Islami who did good work in Karachi, and they could be pressured to keep law and order and focus on development?
