Afghan Refugees op/ed by Ambassador Tariq Osman Hyder

I understand the security and economic arguments. However, an Afghan child born and raised in Pakistan is an Afghan only on paper. There should be a route for him/her to attain Pakistani citizenship, after satisfying the host country's concerns as required.

It is amazing Pakistan supports birthright citizenship when most of Eurasian landmass and African countries do not

Seriously what do you guys think you are ?

No illegal or their children should be allowed to become a citizen in any country.

Refugees are by definition not illegal. A child born and raised in the country had no say in it or his Afghan ancestry.

Ofcourse they are. They are not a legal citizen.

There should only be refugees if there is a genocide in a country and if the race is at risk. If there is war then go fight for your country and if you are a woman make sure your men are well fed for battle.

Change the Constition and Pakistan nationality act 1951 then. By current laws, Afghans born and raised in Pakistan are full citizens of the country and refusing them passport and expelling them is immoral and unconstitutional.

There's plenty of other legal statuses apart from citizenship which are covered under temporary and permanent residence; tourists, foreign students, foreign workers, refugees, care givers and naturalization are all covered under it. Regardless, a child born within the country, to illegal parents or otherwise, cannot be illegal.

We disagree.

They passed a bill in 2024 in attempts to change it after the Islamabad High Court upheld birthright citizenship in 2018 and 2022, disagreeing with the Peshawar High Court's interpretation of it.

The discussion should be beyond what is in the law and instead about making the law uphold what is right; if you or your parents are born of this soil then you belong to it.

Its BS, birth right law is never implemented. And if afghanists and pashtunists cry then that law will easily be amended as 80% of Pakistan are not interested in giving afghanis a citizenship based on birth. Pakistan consider every afghani a refugee by default for that reason to get around that. Refugees or their children cannot become citizens.

In Pakistan there are hundreds of thousands of illegal bengalis who came in post 1980s and their children are still illegals. Remember we used to have higher GDP per capita then India and Bangladesh not long ago.

Similarly only way for Afghanis to get Pakistani ID is by bribing Nadra officials but they are easily caught once their family tree is verified.

I encourage people to lead a rebellion against any Pakistani government and/or entity that tries to legalise millions of invading Afghans on your soil.

A piece of paper cannot change the Zionist mentality and expansionist mentality of such a people. They belong to a hostile country that has weaponised demographic expansionism as a weapon of warfare.

Akhand Bharat, Loy Afghanistan, both Zionist plans.

The current law is how everyone got citizenship. You are also wrong on Bengalis children in Pakistan, read this article

That makes no sense.
A pig born in a horse stable does not become a horse. Even if you assign a piece of paper labelling the pig as a horse.

Afghans should be deported to the country which they are loyal to (Afghanista), by all means necessary including force if required.

An ethno nat is an ethnonat. Just because he is born here doesn't mean he hates Pakistanis any less.

Also, the host country regime is more concerned with bribes. If we stupidly enough grant birth right citizenship, everyone and their mother in Afghanistan can claim to be born here in Pakistan. There is no way to distinguish them from those actually born here. And with a bribe to Nadra, everyone of will get citizenship in matter of a decade like half of barmal district of Afghanistan https://tolonews.com/afghanistan/half-barmal-district-residents-‘hold-pakistani-id-cards’

I rather we not start another fiasco like we did in 80s when we refused to limit these people to enclosed concentration camps.
