KABUL: Schools in Afghanistan opened for the new academic year on Wednesday, the education ministry said, with girls banned from joining secondary-level classes for the third year in a row.

Taliban authorities barred girls from secondary school in March 2022, after surging back to power in mid-2021 and ousting the Western-backed government.

The education ministry announced the new school year on Tuesday, a day before the start of the Afghan calendar’s new year.

“The new school year… will start in all provinces with the ringing of the school bell at a ceremony” in Kabul, the announcement said.

Women journalists were expressly forbidden from covering the ceremony in an invite issued to media outlets.

The Taliban government has imposed an austere interpretation of Islam, with women bearing the brunt of curbs the United Nations has labelled “gender apartheid”.

Government universities also recently started the new academic year, but women have been blocked from attending since December 2022.

This is something I cannot understand, why prohibit women from receiving more education?

They are looking at the world and feel education for women has created delusions that have negatively effected the family and created sky rocketing divorce rates

Afghanistan will never progress under Taliban. You cannot keep 50% of population uneducated and think about progress especially the one who is responsible for upbringing of your future generation.
Better than killing them through highest rate of female infanticide in the world and raping them with highest rate of rape of those that make it through....

Sexual violence in marriage is prevalent in Afghanistan. A 2021 survey by the Afghan Ministry of Women's Affairs reported that 40 per cent of women in Afghanistan's Kandahar province had experienced sexual violence and more than 60 per cent nationwide were married without their consent.
You talk as if these uneducated girls will live in heaven ..
Taliban ideology nourishes itself by supporters like these who want educated one for marriage and will educate their daughters but for others they will support Taliban ideology...hypocrites..

Like a few have said they have the wrong idea about efucation.

Just to make the point this is not for religious reasons, the first university which was established was by a muslim woman. This is unfortunately bad cultural ways which the Afghans need to move away from.

I wouldn't be too much concerned about Afghans, it's only a few people. That country is a clusterfuck anyway, what more it can do?

Doesn't include the vast amount of casual relationships and general fuckery
The Taliban are clear women's education has created a generation of delusional women in the world and that has had a consequence on the family

Muslim society to overcome this must keep the family and community strong above others

If anything sitting in the UK, let's you have a good look into what's happened why marriage rates have plummeted, divorce rates have sky rocketed.
Single mother homes and children without fathers etc
The delusions amongst feminists women
The total collapse of morality and hook up culture with women having multiple partners at a relatively young age then being unable to sustain long term relationships

Knowing what's happening here should be a wake up call, that we absolutely need to protect our families, culture and people

If Muslims can defend against this then with our strong family structure, low average age we can emerge over the next century
