Taliban district chief resigns over treatment by governor

KABUL (Amu tv): The Taliban district chief for Tagab in Badakhshan province has resigned, saying the provincial governor humiliated him by leaving him waiting for hours without a meeting.
Mohammad Asil announced his resignation in a voice message sent to a WhatsApp group used by Taliban officials. A copy of the recording has since circulated on social media.
Asil said he had gone to meet Rahmatullah Najib, the Taliban governor of Badakhshan, to raise problems facing local residents but was not allowed to see him after waiting outside the governor’s office for about three and a half hours.
He said the experience left him disillusioned with serving in the Taliban administration.
“I personally reject a job like this a thousand times, even if it were a ministry, if it causes me to lose my dignity,” Asil said in the recording. “I am fed up with this kind of position.”
Asil also said he was deeply concerned about how ordinary residents were being treated if a district governor could be kept waiting for hours.
“My heart aches for the people of Badakhshan. I suffer. We should cry tears of blood,” he said. “If you keep a district governor, the top official of a district, waiting behind a door for four hours, then how will you treat the people? What will these defenseless people do?”
It was not immediately clear whether Taliban authorities had accepted Asil’s resignation. Taliban officials have not publicly commented on the matter.
