Air India to cut international flights till July amid fuel surge, airspace curbs

Disagree. Air travel is not like software programming. The world and his uncle won't tolerate cheap and cheerful alternatives to genuine quality (particularly in terms of safety record, never mind the frills and garnish). The only market for Air India gamble-with-your-life tat will be Indians themselves, who will tolerate such low standards.

Now in one sense, that does remain a considerably large market, because of your population, but that is a specific context that India applies here and it doesn't mean "cheapness" equates to "competitiveness" per se.

Beyond that, how cheap Air India can remain is questionable. One would speculate that trying to remain budget friendly in the context of jet fuel cost rises and airspace bans is precisely the reason why Air India is struggling.
Wow. You never heard about Low cost airlines. ?
Despite all the issues The safety record of Air India is pretty solid.
They have deep pockets and has recently signed 500+ plane deals with Air Bus and Boenig.

India doesn't need to fix geography.... its just a small sized Pakistan who can be happy by thinking that he can block few planes going to Europe from only Delhi and surroundings....

India is too large my friend.... south India doesn't at all need you and from north India only from Delhi and surroundings has just to fly 1 hr journey till Gujarat and continue.... you don't have that big landmass to block entire western Indian air traffic.... after all it's just a little Pakistan landmass we have to deal with...

For east asia, America, Australia we don't even need you from Delhi as well... so enjoy Karo aur khwab dekhte raho....
Factually incorrect. I am not your fwend.

You're actually shitting me right?

Air India is what now, the brown Ryanair??

Calm down.! These steel plants are around 100 year old !
Tata acquired their managment around 2007 ! But yeah ! They should pay for the legacy of these plants. ! Good luck !

Some of the guys are pretending like a $3 billion loss is a killer for Air India.
That's probably right because you can get equity injections from Tata, but the question is how many years does this set long-term plans back.

But really it's not that interesting a story for one airline

do you consider extra fuel cost/ extra maintenance cost due to extra miles traveled ? wether its 5 minute flight or 2 hours flight and needs extra crews for long haul flights because of fatigue of the operating crew and unconvince to passengers to reach their destinations in longer period of times

Insurance premiums have gone through the roof. For airlines no longer profitable or affordable to continue flying to some of the destinations.

I don't care if they succeed or fail, I just hate them and want nothing to do with them and hopefully we increasingly pull Pakistan away from India at least, if not South Asia as a whole

Our efforts need to be centered around changing our people, to pull away from any shared identity and more needs to be done to ban all and any Indian content or programming

Yeah yeah. The Dutch people don't want Indian Tata pollution in their country.

The key is that Indian state got rid of their flagship carrier to a private entity. The biggest headache for AIr India is their legacy customer facing workforce. they need to replace those employees with ones that can interface with customers

Not.to bring Pakistan in, the PIA is going the same route to private investors

the reputation of air-india has suffered immensely after that suicide crash of the B787 last year which was taking off for London.
Yet their govt and accident investigation did not acknowledge or confirm that despite all the facts.....go read some of the comments by their own people and insiders who tell all (theyve been silenced)
And now its still facing huge losses even after the privatization which was supposed to fix all the problems.........

Airspace will remain closed for the foreseeable future, i don't think its going to change, specially when op sindoor is about to be restarted by the threatening indian military every 2-3 days........

the smart/wealthy/western-settled indians are flying on european or mideastern carriers these days.....and avoiding air india.

it is obviously a cost

Air India from SF/NY to India is 16-18 hours. Before this, it used to be 22-24 hours through Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qatar, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, British Airways. Not to mention Air India is undercutting those foreign airlines on price

Of course, Air India service is lot to be desired

The price differential on Air India is a long term threat to other players
