Altay & Turkish Main Battle Tank Programs

they should stop investing time and money in this thing. It is older then 90% off PDF members.

Unfortunately until there is mass production of the Altay and Light Tanks and UGVs in mass, this is a necessity atleast for part of the fleet. We have seen how the war of attrition is going in Ukraine. Its sounds crazy but if there was a land war in Europe, Germans and French will be using their older tanks as well the way the Russians are doing, refurbishing older tanks b/c the T-90s are not enough.. Russians had lost 200 T-90 by 2025, numbers are probably higher now.

I think going forwards Cheap Mobile UGVs may enter the meta. Automating some of these tanks to be remotely controlled or have autonomous capabilities with AI may be the future.

Just read a magazine in french, written by the french MBT specialist : Marc Chassilian.

The BATU engine of Altay MBT is nothing else than a copie and paste of the MTU V12 engine of Leo2.

Same engine displacement, same config, same mounting points.

If the engine works, and is made in Türkiye on a turn-key basis, then what is the problem BonBon/Rakesh ????

Where is the proof? lol

You are wrong BTW, thats like saying the Korean engine is a copy paste of the MTU as well.

It was designed as a dropin replacement but that doesn't make it a copy, only that it has similar dimensions and output, inside it has its own differences.

Also The Renk HSWL 354 transmission has four forward and two reverse gears, BATU powerpack transmission has 6 forward 2 reverse.

Here are the proofS

=

Several different powerpacks have been used in the Altay; they are notable for having nearly identical interfaces. This is because the German "Europowerpack" served as the benchmark for the other two (the Korean version and the domestic Turkish one)....
The engine—a 12-cylinder, twin-turbocharged diesel—has a displacement of 27.3 liters, exactly the same as the MTU-883. The transmission, featuring six forward gears and a three-gear reverse system, is directly inspired by the Renk HSWL-295. The running gear incorporates components from the South Korean K2, including its hydropneumatic suspension elements, tracks, and road wheels.

Where is the part where its a copy?

It was literally designed as a dropin replacement, so of course its going to have to have similar dimensions. But that doesn't make it a copy, a copy would be reverse engineering and the powerpacks have different design changes, I showed you the gears are different. Turkey added more forward gears than the German one, and it has less reverse gears than the Korean. That is not a copy. It was just made to be a similar size, inside is different.

Copy and paste, turkish specialty in weapon industry.
It works ? Not a single Altay delivered so far is fitted with a Batu. So wait and see.

If copying were that easy, we wouldn’t have been working on this for 10 years. It’s not enough to just copy the design—the metallurgical aspect is crucial.

See in yellow.
Same architecture in "U", same displacement, same number of turbo.
If it is not a copy & paste, what is it?

You are right.
It is where it will be interesting to see how reliable Batu will be.
