Apparently this Patrick Bet-David was was born into a Christian family of Assyrian and Armenian descent. That explains his name. He is only Iranian in name. His true roots are Armenian.

Sikh names are long and unpronounceable - whites usually give them a nickname - which sticks with them.

It will be good to bookmark this thread and come back 3-4 years later to see whether Indian influence (whether in form of outsourcing or immigration) has come down wrt US tech industry. It is possible of course that thanks to AI the total employment in IT sector may come down for all concerned. But I know nothing of this industry and will let experts like Ghotok babu (@AjayGhatak) to opine on the same.

Whenever you feel unsure about the future, look at the past.

Human labour has been replaced by machines forever. One big instance was telephone switching. At one time, I believe long long ago, massive number of women in America were employed as telephone switch board operator. This was before automated switching exchanges (not digital but just automated). And then came automated exchanges and right now none of them work in those roles. The job was overnight eliminated.

Its impact was mixed. The overall employment of the women remained positive even after the automation took over. That said, those who were working in telecom industry at that point of time faced decrease in income and decrease in employment during a decade that followed.

Thanks, that was very helpful. Lets hope our Indian policymakers are taking steps which enable Indians to train and switch to new opportunities (the sort of stuff which you were talking about in the other thread) while across the border the govts are focussed on how to make memes on MAGA v/s H1Bs.

I guess you missed my Kevin Flanagan quiz. Let me just jot down the main points. He was a techie working with BankAm who was laid off and his job offshored to Bangalore. Around the same time, lots of Indians were coming to US on various visas, not just H1B. He commited suicide. This happened in 2003. There was a huge amount of resentment against Indian immigrants at that time. Now, 22 years later tell me has Indian presence in US tech industry (whether it is immigrants or outsourcing) increased or decreased.

Finally as ai and automation takes hold why do you need even more people, eventually opportunities in theory will contract but we know the h1b people will stay or try to, this is the mags argument

India's H1B immigrants may not(or maybe) be better than native white American graduates but they are willing to work at lower wages and longer hours. (Presumably) their productivity adjusted for wages maybe better than natives. For that reason US corporates will engage them. I am sure if the whites are willing to drop their wages, they will be considered.

None of India's Univs maybe in the top 500 but it doesn't mean the top 5 or 10% of students graduating from India's best univs are not top notch talents. I am sure the best at places like NUST and LUMS in PAK are world class engineers and scientists.

Indians cannot even think to put them into the shoes of Americans but just the benefits to them.

There really is no gain to Americans by mass importation of Indians that drive down available jobs, wages and conditions.

It does not matter what the rich want as they cannot over-ride the life chances of the middle-class Americans. Without giving the masses enough of a stake in society, the elites will not be in power much longer.
