Apple (AAPL) Sees Robust iPhone 17 Sales in China

  • Apple's iPhone 17 sales in China have exceeded expectations, potentially boosting the company's Q4 performance.
  • Apple Inc. maintains a strong financial position with robust margins and consistent revenue growth.
  • Despite high valuation metrics, Apple's financial strength and market influence remain significant.
Apple (AAPL, Financial) is experiencing impressive sales performance for its iPhone 17 in China, surpassing expectations just two weeks after its launch. This strong demand is anticipated to generate significant momentum for the company's fourth-quarter performance. Industry analysts predict this positive trend will continue into the first quarter of 2026, highlighting Apple's growing influence in the Chinese market.

just wondering if the sales drop #s are due to hyperinflation everywhere....

i know in our home we use the phones for several years before buying a new phone.....still going strong on iphone 12 models. Hardly use them much other than what its meant to be, a fucking phone to make calls. I dont use or store financial info on the phone anyway.

The one bit concerning is how fast the powers that be are trying to make the world a CASHLESS world.....that will be when they really control us all.......scary when they can shut you down in seconds over anything

China's consumer market is getting better and better, and technology is bringing great benefits to China, from the era of smartphones to smart electric cars, smart whole home system, and digital cities. The popularity of the QR code payment system has made us not use cash for many years. The construction of the high-speed rail provides us with convenient conditions to travel thousands of kilometers in a few hours. Without any surprise, every foreign businessman who comes to China to participate in the exhibition is surprised, just like a child who is full of curiosity when entering the city for the first time. It's no exaggeration to tell me that the Chinese live in the future.
I even study how to buy in order to experience high-tech products. As an engineer, I need to experience cutting-edge technology in order to think about how to design and improve.
Let me get back to the point. I am a loyal user of Huawei, and my friends are also Huawei users. From mobile phones to cars, I'm not surprised that Huawei has returned to the top of the list, and I sincerely congratulate you.

Huawei chips don't even work for AI training, that's why the new Deepseek model was delayed.

Huawei is a grossly over-rated company, whose main sales drive is nationalistic sentiments. These guys actually on many occasions deliver very subpar consumer products. That's y Apple even beat them in the latest quarterly (Q3) China sales:

You can see (from my post history) I rarely come here to post anymore. This site is driven by crazed Huawei fanboi posters whose consciousness live in la-la-land that is very far apart from reality...

I always thought China is a meritocratic society. Basically any (Chinese) company should be exalted based on the quality and excellence of their products. Apparently not so with Huawei, they could produce utter crap (as evidenced by how suck their AI chips are that caused Deepseek to fall further behind the West) and a few weirdos would still buy them up in China.
Isn't DeepSeek just a minor player or a side project for one of China's 5,300+ AI companies?

Apple reports its strongest iPhone quarter on record in China

Apple reported on Thursday record revenue for its first fiscal quarter, which corresponds to the fourth quarter of calendar year 2025, as strong iPhone demand and a rebound in China lifted sales.

Apple's China sales surged 38 percent from a year earlier. The number of customers upgrading to new iPhones hit a record high, while conversions from first-time users rose at a double-digit pace, Tim Cook, Apple's CEO said on the earnings call.

IDC data showed Apple shipped 16 million smartphones in China in the fourth quarter of 2025, making it the top vendor for the period, while Huawei, the Chinese technology giant, ranked first for the full year.

The Chinese smartphone market has been extremely tough in 2025. Huawei, Apple, Vivo, Xiaomi and OPPO respectively took a close share of 16.4 percent, 16.2 percent, 16.2 percent, 15.4 percent and 15.2 percent, with Apple the only non-Chinese brand among the top five, which had previously slipped out of the group in early 2024.

"iPhone had its best-ever quarter driven by unprecedented demand, with all-time records across every geographic segment," Cook said. According to the financial report, revenue of iPhone increased 23 percent year on year, accounting for 59.3 percent of Apple's total revenue.

The iPhone 17 standard model kept prices unchanged despite hardware upgrades, a move that helped drive the lineup's strong performance.

However, Apple warned that rising demand could pressure margins in the coming quarter, saying tight supply of advanced chips, along with rising memory prices, could drive up costs and weigh on gross margins.

On its AI strategy, Cook said Apple has partnered with Google to develop its foundation models, which will support future Apple intelligence services. Beyond the partnership, Apple would also continue some of its AI development independently, he added.

Apple has been seen as slower in advancing artificial intelligence features than its competitors. The company unveiled its AI platform, Apple Intelligence, in 2024, but major AI-driven upgrades to Siri have yet to be rolled out, highlighting the challenges it faces in accelerating its AI development.

Apple is no longer innovative.

it was a very close market for 2025

Apple Regains Top Spot in China's Smartphone Market

Apple reclaimed the leading position in China's smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2025 as strong demand for the iPhone 17 lineup offset a contracting market and growing supply-chain pressure from memory chip shortages.

For the full year, Apple did not lead the Chinese market, but it narrowed the gap with domestic competitors. Counterpoint said Huawei ranked first in China for 2025 with a 16.4% market share, followed closely by Apple and vivo at around 16% each. Xiaomi and Oppo trailed slightly behind at roughly 15% each.

end year totals for 2025
Huawei: 16.4%
Apple: 16%
Vivo: 16%
Xiaomi: 15%
Oppo: 15%

An interesting phenomenon is that among Chinese government units and business people, all use Huawei, whether it is mobile phones, headphones, watches, computers, or cars. Huawei's products have been recognized by the elite group.
This phenomenon has been growing in recent years. Most of my friends are Huawei products.

Europe used to be very pro-huawei. Cell towers and phones. Hopefully, china can be pro-europe again.

This is where Europeans were in the 2010s, with china.

iPhone's 20% Chinese sales boost beat out Huawei and others

Apple's iPhone 17 series has proven popular in China

The quarter, ending March 2026, saw Apple's iPhone sales increase by the biggest percentage since the final quarter of 2020. With a 20% increase in iPhone sales when compared to the previous year, there are thought to be multiple reasons for Apple's strong performance.

At the very top of the list, per Counterpoint Research's report, is strong sales of the newly released iPhone 17 series of devices. Apple made the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air available in September 2025.

Strong demand, coupled with promotional discounts and subsidies offered by the local government, is also thought to be a key factor.

This news also follows what was a record holiday quarter for Apple. The company reported growth across almost all market segments. In China, the company reported a 3.1% increase in revenue over the previous year.

At the time, CEO Tim Cook said that Apple saw double-digit iPhone growth in mainland China during that quarter. Couple that news with Counterpoint's figures, and Q1 2026 looks set to continue Apple's trend of bumper quarters.

Apple shows the way

Apple's 20% growth in iPhone sales saw it outmuscle the other major players in the Chinese smartphone market. That includes homegrown offerings from Huawei and Xiaomi.

Sitting behind Apple in second place, Huawei saw its shipments grow by just 2%. Despite that, it still holds a 20% share of the market in China. The report notes that it also took advantage of government subsidies similar to those enjoyed by Apple.

Vivo also saw a 2% increase in shipments compared to the same period in 2025, thanks in part to its budget offerings.

Elsewhere, Oppo and Honor shipped fewer units than Q1 2025, but only by 5% and 3%, respectively. Xiaomi was the big loser thanks to a massive 35% YoY decline after its core models underperformed.

As for the future, Counterpoint notes that Apple "is widely viewed as best positioned to navigate the ongoing global memory crunch." The company's close management of its supply chain and premium offerings are thought to have largely insulated it from fluctuating chip prices.
