The course held in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan with the participation of a group of qualified specialists from the Azerbaijan Air Force successfully ended.

An event on the occasion of the return of Azerbaijani servicemen, who successfully completed the course, was organized.

During the course, Azerbaijani military specialists operated in interoperability with the military personnel of the Air Force of friendly and brotherly Pakistan, demonstrating high level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Namig Islamzade met with the servicemen, who returned to the Motherland, and commended their activities.

The skies over the Caucasus are probably the best case scenario for the thunder. Azerbaijan being a relatively small land mass means that a single squadron for Thunders can practically cover the entire country. With BVRs (both Turkish and Chinese), the AzAF can pretty much cover the entirety of Armenia and Georgia, and secure their southern border with Iran. Azerbaijan now practically has a first shot capability with the JF-17s.

Its an excellent purchase, and opens up possibility for future sales of PFX, if PFX ever becomes a reality.
 
Wonderful news , For Azeri Air-force , it is logical to have sufficient planes for their needs
  • 80 to 120 JF17-Block II and JF17-BlockIII
  • 5-6 Squadrons

I anticipated Nigeria also to have similar passion to expand their air-force to at least 100 air planes, I have been disappointed with Nigera they should have ordered planes in large quantity

Azerbaijan will go for a pure J17C fleet, that is what they were waiting for. 120 units seems too large given their existing airforce to me.

5-6 is minimum , can't just have 1 squadron that is too small
Need to look at Turkey near by and follow their approach

They have 100-150 F16 C/D for instance good approach

Turkey has a nice balanced armed forces

Azerbijan has a population of 10million, Turkey is alot larger for context. Armenia doesnt fare any better.
 
From Long term perspective if you make air-force once it serves for at least 25 years

Turkey itself is trying to increase it's Jet Count considering war is at it's footsteps

Absolutely not.

This is the wishful thinking of someone who doesn't know the region very well.

Azerbaijan does not have the capacity to own such a large air force. Their needs are relatively small, and their defense budget is tiny. This year they set their highest military budget at $5 billion, and their military doesn't have alternate enterprises like Pakistan, China, and India have to help them increase their spending ability.

Even the new purchase of $4 billion Thunders is going to be over multiple years, and likely from government coffers and not the airforce budget itself.

$4 billion is a lot of money, can get quite a lot of thunders. 40 number might actually be close.
