Which AD these Babur class frigates are using? CAMM? what's the range? and compared to FM-90N are they better?

CAMM-ER. 40Km. Some earlier reports suggested it was tested at upto 60Km

No comparison with FM-90N. FM90 is 1980's technology. Anything is better than it.

although as said above by the two of you friends, which is how usually defence deals happen, there may be another direction ...

if PN went for JCF directly, we might never have those ships in inventory as early as we could have these Babur-class frigates. we would have been in the process of getting first in 2026, with second sometime later in 2028, and who knows the fate of the other 4 being built in Karachi with delays etc. we will have an idea about it when PNS Badr and Tariq are commissioned.

i think PN straight away went for Babur-class being selected for procurement and later based JCF development on it.

Even without considering ammunition, personnel training, necessary maintenance, and technical support, this price seems low.

The radar on the ship alone is about half the price. I looked into Türkiye's TF-2000 project a bit. While these types of ships are a huge cost even for the country that produces them, it would be extremely expensive for a country buying them ready-made, because you are not the country that produces the ship. If the producing country buys it for 1 unit of price, the buying country will have to pay at least 3 units of price. Very few countries can afford this; those that can either produce them themselves or add to the cost by producing something themselves to reduce the price as much as possible.

Acquiring a Type 54D seems like a dream given the Pakistan Navy's budget. I think they evaluated their options well and made their decision. And as a thought, I would like to say that Pakistan needs to increase the number of platforms. Instead of investing the price of 4 ships in one ship, they need to increase the number. Because if that platform, which you bought for the price of 4 ships, is hit, it will be much harder to recover from that loss.

Shocking if true, and very disappointed in the Chinese behaviour if they did that, as we are meant to be "allies" ......

By forcing you to buy J-10, you got a superior platform anyway....and the ability to field PL15 long range versions on both JF-17 and J-10s.

PL15 earned its worth already. Doubt anyone should be questioning Chinese techno commercial sense.

They probably thought ahead on how the odds would be stacked against the PAF v the Rafale and advanced Sukhois.
