Bangladesh Air Force

Honestly - Bangladesh has being saying it was going to buy a new fighter for the last 10years since I paid attention to it. Lets not get ahead of ourselves on this front!
*26 years. It started with 8 additional MiG-29s that were supposed to be delivered as per deal signed in 1998/99 by BAL govt but later cancelled by BNP govt in 2002.
Both of these traitor parties did not procure any fighter jets other than 3rd gen F-7's since.

It kind of worked for them in that they could invest the money into the economy, which led to an economy that is larger than Pakistan's. However, the recent change of relationship with India, brings with it some military and security issues that Bangladesh is ill placed to handle if Modi decides to do something for any reason.

I wish they had used it entirely for economy but unfortunately not. Compared to the billions that we lost through corruption and money laundering - spending a billion for jets and AD would have at least placed us in a better position to defend against Hindutva aggression.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, BBP, OSP, GUP, NSWC, PSC, participated in the AeroSpace Power Conference (ASPC) 2025 on 08-09 May 2025 at the invitation of the Chief of the Air Staff of Italy, Lieutenant General Luca GORETTI. During the official visit, the Air Chief visited Leonardo facilities at the invitation of the Italian military equipment manufacturer 'Leonardo S.P.A.'. The visit of the Air Chief will further strengthen the existing cordial relations between Bangladesh and Italy which will expand the scope of mutual cooperation in the professional sector.

There is a rumor that China refused to provide J10CE with latest PL-15 to us. Maybe that is why we're exploring other options! Maybe second hand EF Typhoons? Don't know. I don't think we can afford anything other than J-10CE as of now.

"If" our air farce and defence ministry guys are serious about building our defense capabilities...

May be they don't trust us yet. I don't blame them. Our generals are sold out punks.

Mama...free trip. No need for deep analysis.
Our muppet Air Marshals are happy as long as their staff cars have Apple Car Play and heated/cooled seats.

Pakistan spent around close to 7% of GDP on defence in the 1980s, yet it had a stronger economy then it does now. Right now Pakistan spends around 2.8% of GDP on defence.

The relationship between defence spending and it's effect on economic growth isn't always straight forward. Other factors are far stronger influencers on the overall economic health.

Spending 2-3% of GDP on defence has minimal effect on the overall economy, as long as other factors are also under control.
Other factors being, access to foreign aid, domestic security situation, political stability, supporting policies (finance, trade, industry and so on)........

The figure in 2023 was 1% for Bangladesh, Trump is having a hissy fit on governments spending 2%, he wants higher. It is all about balanced priorities and balancing various policies.

Here's thought.
I keep hearing Bangladeshi complaining about their size, I think they mean both, but it's ridiculous to think 180 million is small, but land area certainly is small. But it's how you think about it.
Bangladesh isn't surrounded by India, India can't magically relocate forces without Bangladesh knowing, or being able to influence that relocation. That means Bangladeshi forces, with proper planning can align its defence posture to meet the direction of threat.
In effect Bangladesh faces two India's. One in the west, and one in the northeast, both have to be dealt with in a different manner. It's enough to mention, because I don't see that mindset amongst Bangladeshis.

Now the size and the need for an effective Airforce.
Having few dozen fighters means nothing, they will be blown away. You need to have a substantial force, at least 150 fighters in two classes.
But before that, why not invest in an effective air defence infrastructure. Having a smaller box like size also means perfect environment for air defence.

But you can't just defend, because the other party will just keep hitting. So offence is also necessary. For that invest in long range rocket force, coupled with a massive home built drone force. Developing missiles will result in various roadblocks, but drones are still an open field. Pakistan and Türkiye will help with open arms, China I think shouldn't be a problem either.

Couple that with massive numbers of shoulder launched anti aircraft missiles and anti armour missiles, part of anti invasion strategy. Develop core capabilities where India can't stand on your border and threaten any government to do it's bidding. Any government can only stand up to India if it knows we can't be invaded.

Next best option is the JF 17 BLK 3 with Faaz 2 missiles.
