Bangladesh: Analyzing Hasina era Adani Power Deal

Given the reputation of Adani - I doubt it.

It will be a field day to highlight all of Adani’s crookedness in front of international media and financial markets.

Like the crooked way he manipulates the share price to raise money from Indian retail investors lol

Court cases do not work on reputation. They work on facts.

Seems like the Bangali -Indian marriage is over.
It was over on Dec 17, 1971.....

Mujib regime was put to an end not by pro-Pak folks, but by the freedom fighters themselves. The folks who killed Mujib and his extended family were all freedom fighters....

The interim government of Bangladesh has been reevaluating many of the projects and decisions taken during the Sheikh Hasina era. It will take them time for them to evaluate and make a decision regarding this.
Best of luck!

I don’t think you can have NDA against a non military contract.

Remember reading about this when some African Chinese contracts were being scrutinised.
Could be possible. There is no law against it. But then again the details or CPEC is not available in public domain either.

They should have come up with a plan to resolve their energy issue

I believe a power station is opening soon in Bangladesh,

But you shouldn't trust a enemy full of hindutva extremists with ill intentions towards you

Like you've been working on a 'plan to resolve energy issues' in Pakistan for years? How's that going?
Unlike you they did have a plan - they went to one of the biggest power producers in the world and bought power that kept their country running for over a decade. But you buy power- you pay for it. Adani has to pay staff, coal companies and shareholders- this power didn't fall out of the sky.

BD may very well have to pay the contract obligations if taken to arbitration, I don't doubt it.

What BD will hope to achieve by taking this to court is expose the corruption that led to the deal. Question is can Adani and Modi afford such a huge controversy or not? Hasina has no choice, she is doomed anyway.
although Adani's reputation is a big question mark, but that does not mean than every deal they have done is layered with corruption, specially when it comes to international deals with sovereign guarantee..

They are behaving like the loan sharks we cannot name lol

what 'loan sharks'? You think adani doesn't have to pay for coal? For staff? For production?

You think you have a revolution so all the coal mines will give up their cash, staff willl go without salaries and banks won't recover cash?

BD bought power, not free.

Modi-Adani wants out of the contract.

India already allowing Adani to sell the power from this plant to Indian consumers.

You can speculate on the reasons but this contract only came about due to Hasina and she is now gone. We still have no public disclosure of the contract and maybe Modi-Adani wants it to be gone and buried.
my post
above.

it was stupidity to buy burnt coal electricity from indians at first place, hope that this situation will lead to enhancing domestic facilities for energy production. bangladesh is in better position anyway for importing coal then india.

It's going well, multiple dams and power stations have been built or are being completed

But you don't rely on a state with hindutva extremism at it's core, at some point they will try to use the power supply against you

It's only common sense

Adani is being unreasonable here.

BD is paying both current electricity import and covering previous debt and so there is no need for this.

Yes it may take 12-18 months to clear it all but BD is trying its best.
They are not asking for payment upfront. Rather clarification from current BD regime on ways they'll settle the same.

BD paid 100 million dollars just last month, which is 60 million dollars for cost of electricity for the month and 40 million for accrued debt.

Work out why Adani has cut power by half and made the extremely unreasonable demand to pay all debt within a week.
No such demands were made by Adani.

Because of excelent and going well you're going to IMF for 1 Billion every year. And because of bad management BD has been exporting 30 billion in garments every year.

Bad enough you mismage your own economy, you have to also become a bad influence on other countries that are doing a decent job.

And @UKBengali the lesson is for you too. Keep going down the path of cock-a-meme scatterbrained policies and you'll stand in line in front of IMF with katora in hand too.

The cost of power in PK seems to be around 35 PKR, looks like PK could actually benefit from an Adani power deal
