Bangladesh: Analyzing Hasina era Adani Power Deal

Adani deal is spilled milk at this point. Just treat as lesson learned for the ongoing and upcoming projects.

Once again is anyone aware of any audit to be performed by the government of Bangladesh on Adani?

They mentioned the reviews of multiple deals including that of Adani is in progress. No further details available apart from that at this time.

How are you measuring the quality?

World was much less competitive in the 1970-1990s. What did our better educated people achieve? E.g. original research?

was it better, worse, or same?
World wasn’t less competitive, economically backward countries had less opportunities to stand out that’s all. People like Bose, abdus Sattar, F.R Khan have contributed significantly in their respective fields back then even with the limited opportunities they had. Such brilliant people are few and far between nowadays in the Indian subcontinent, advanced nations offer a stable life and unbound opportunities which is why countries such as India Pakistan Bangladesh will always face brain drain. Because they do not have policy to accommodate to young generation.

Slightly Off topic- I studied medicine with Indians who thought they would go back to India to work and live comfortably but now they want a way out because of lack of opportunities. Same in my case with Bangladesh.

You can do so much with increasing quality in f education but there will always be a cap based on what you’ve setup to accommodate these educated people.

India educated people dominate tech and pharmaceutical sectors in U.S..

These guys left India but have ensured their decisions benefit India.

They now run large corporations and helping India get a slice of the success.

Under Trump they will get plum jobs and will further oil the opportunities for India and Indians.

Bangladeshi educated people are nowhere by comparison. I have seen many come to US - struggle to find jobs - some even leave due to failure to find good jobs.

An Indian grad in the early 2000s entered as a junior - now they enter as mids.

Bangladeshi grads by comparison (unless BUET educated) joined manual labour or as cabbies. This has not changed.

I have seen BUET folks secure junior positions and steadily climb the ladder. But that’s it.

According to some Muslims here, Indians succeeding in tech and pharma is just 'worshiping the white race.' Because clearly, you're only 'fiercely independent' and 'strong' if you end up as a cabbie or a janitor in the West. Meanwhile, those 'white-worshipping' Indians are building empires, running Fortune 500 companies, and creating opportunities for their countrymen. Guess success must sting a bit when all you've got to show is a ride-hailing app and a mop.

By white worshipping what they mean is that Indians embraced western education whilst Muslims in the subcontinent hung onto Madrasas based education.

Trump, the white man, is literally being dog walked by Indian Americans. Ditto, democrats.

Anyway, that’s their way of coping!

Libs smoke pot to cope. Islamists smoke the denial hukka to cope!

Both are equally toxic!!

Most Bangladeshis who leave bangladesh do so for better economic opportunities... wether educated or not... the losers who run the country do not provide opportunities to give back to the country...

you'll not find that bangladeshi professor who detected gravitational waves try to improve science within his origin country because there simply is no interest by the government. same goes for salmon khan of khan academy and countless other bangladeshis who have succeeded in the west.

The people who enter cabby or manual labor job do so because they are simply not educated...

The rest who are educated have established themselves in Europe, USA and middle east

Dude, fairly high percentage of NYC cabbies are graduates. I know a prominent Dhakaya journalist - who came to NYC on family visa - drives a cab. I will not name him given he is an extended family member.

Our halal butcher has a master’s degree!

Lot of the recent arrivals into east London are non-sylhetis - all grads and doing manual jobs especially in the care industry.

There are many reasons why someone might be a cabbie as a graduate... generalization is not appropriate... however for the most part work experience in the west gets reset to zero if you move from developing nations....

I would probably have to work in the service industries for many years... in the US/ Canada even though I just recently graduated as a doctor... I would need to meet certain criteria before being able to appear for USMLE to work as a physician in the US... until then I would probably also have to wash dishes, in Canada it's worse since even if I pass their exams I wouldn't be given opportunity for a residency because of their own archaic policies... even though they've shortage of doctors in their country....

as for the UK yes bangladeshis study and work at the same time until they can legalize, some of my friends have finally become citizens and will now work in their respective majors ie ICT and accounting.... that's how immigrating as a student works... just look into immigration crisis involving Indian students in Canada to get an idea.

Kola bhai,

The regions that became Republic of India inherited a far better academic infrastructure than the parts that became BD and PAK. Plus, the Hindus took to Western education far earlier than Muslims did. The events post 1947 didnt substantially change the balance. That is why you see a much larger pool of qualified Indian graduates in the US and home work force than you see for BD/PAK.

I have limited understanding of the BD scenario. My prima facie impression is that BD has done as well if not better than IND at primary/secondary education. Where it has struggled is in higher education- that is why you struggle to produce as many quality graduates, techies, engineers etc as IND.

As far as BD graduates being cabbies etc goes, to tell you the truth most Indian graduates are incapable of being much better either.

Regards

I know all of that. Muslims still haven’t embraced western education system - hence they are falling farther and farther behind.

Pretending that the Bangladeshi grads arriving on family visas don’t take up mostly cab and manual jobs is denying reality. Every other cabbie in NYC is a Bangladeshi. And they are mostly grads or minimum college educated.

Whereas Indian grads manage to secure professional to clerical jobs.
