Bangladesh Economy

Not just "chest thumping" but the infrastructure was built by Hasina/AL as well is a pain point for them.

Padma Bridge now opens up the markets of Dhaka to farmers in SW BD to easily tranport their fresh produce for sale.

One-liners like "no feasibility studies done" but when you ask them to expand further, they disappear.

What is this "debt" nonsense as the vast majority of the cost + interest will be paid back by the users and not taxpayers of BD?

Padma Bridge has tolls, Roopur will charge users per kw/h of electricty they consume and Metro Rail has fares and so the government will collect these and pass the money to the lenders.

Are they still clinging on to this debt nonsense!!!

Every infra project was built either cash or with a repayment plan based on direct revenue.

And it’s likely the revenue was underestimated!

Do you really think fossil fuel price will be stable enough to compete with Roopur - I think not.

Britain is facing an energy crisis because it didn’t invest in nuclear.

Russia has Germany by the balls because the fools got rid of nuclear.

Hasina is a visionary leader compared to these buffoons in the west! Never mind Bangladesh!

Of course in 10 years time toll revenue from Padma Bridge will double at least as the amount of vehicles increases that use the bridge daily.

Probably by 2040 the toll revenues will exceed loan from China + interest payments.

Hasina in just 15 years has given BD the best infrastructure out of the 3 large countries in the region with most of the projects self-funding and they are still whinging.

We won’t know the size of the “they” until BAL is able to compete freely.

We will know in 4-5 years.

In the meantime, sit back with extra chocolate coated popcorns!

People have no idea how difficult it was for Hasina to have built all this infrastructure. BD was short of funds and full of whiners who had all sorts of reasons why nothing should ever be built.

She should also get the credit for the approved 8 lane Dhaka to Chittagong highway as all planning and finance arrangements were completed during her time in power.

Anyone using that highway in years to come should thank Hasina for another infrastructure job well done!

@BananaRepublic

Kola bhai,

We won’t know the size of the “they” until BAL is able to compete freely.

There is a good reason why the IG and "the student revolutionaries" dont want to let BAL contest elections. You can challenge them to hold an election under UN supervision so that there is no possibility of BAL or its sympathizers in institutions to tamper with the political process.

Gentry Beach for investing more in Bangladesh’s diversified sectors.

Worth noting that Mr. Beach is close to Trump and a key business partner. So far so good I would say.

He was in Pakistan promising them billions in investment too.

5%+ GDP growth is possible in this fiscal as exports are growing by double-digits again.

Last month 4.4 billion dollars of just goods were shipped. Over 5 billion US dollars when services are taken into account.

Export earnings increased by 11.68pc in July-January

The country's export earnings in the first seven months of the fiscal year 2024-25 increased by 11.68 per cent to US$28.97 billion, according to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data released on Monday.

Bangladesh fetched US $25.94 billion during the July-January period of the last fiscal year.

The single performance in January 2025 showed a 5.70 per cent year-on-year rise reaching $4.44 billion compared to $4.2 billion in January 2024, EPB data revealed.

Readymade garments (RMG) remained the dominant force behind export earnings, and the sector recorded a 12.00 per cent growth in the July-January period of the current fiscal of 2024-25.

The sector fetched US $23.55 billion from $21.3 billion during the period.

Knitwear exports rose by 12.03 per cent to $12.68 billion, while woven garments saw an 11.97 per cent increase, reaching $10.86 billion in the July-January period of FY25.

Not really a massive worry as government has changed and some companies would be "adjusting" profits and so tax payable if they think that they could get into legal troubles for whatever reason with the IG.

Exports and general stability in BD is doing fine and that is the most important thing.

I am not a Hasina or BAL supporter, but credit must be given where credit is due. Unfortunately some Bangladeshis I would say are so polarized and blind that they would rather burn all this down then admit that these infrastructure were beneficial to the public. The one other thing I will give hasina credit for is the development of a submarine base for BN at Chittagong with Chinese help and the introduction of Ming class training submarines for BN

Sounds familiar. Supporters of "secular" parties in India are like that.

They cheer everytime the Indian stock exchange goes down.
They cheer everytime the INR goes down.

And the list goes on.

We bhakts were never like this in the dark UPA era.
