Bangladesh Economy

@Musings and @Joe Shearer

Please look at the use of the word “Chagols” - it’s not the first time this poster has personalised insults.

But you get to call anyone with a different POV than yours "illiterate cab drivers", "illiterate mullah", "juveline delinquents" etc., right?

Cut the hypocrisy and report a post instead of creating drama.

@Afif

Except it is not. You have been peddling this nonsense for a while.

Personally, I have my reservations about BD's GDP data given energy usage and other consumption indicators. But then that is my personal view and nothing else. Today you have an (allegedly) impartial govt which can present the true picture- let them come out with the real GDP before dismissing the current reported GDP as "nonsense"

Regards

Are you aware for your the last 50 years India has had a lead over BD in GDP per capita?

Indians on average are still wealthier than BD’shis.

GDP does not measure consumption but accumulated wealth does.

A man who has made a certain salary for a long time will have a larger and nicer house and have more stuff in it than a younger person who has just caught up with him in salary.

@UKBengali

You didnt notice my disclaimer- it is only my opinion, not a fact.

GDP does not measure consumption

It does. GDP is either saved or consumed. If BD GDP per capita is near par with India and its reported savings rate is also similar, consumption should also be similar. Now what is it that BD is consuming which is at par with India.

Regards

Ah, did I specifically mention you or something? I just expressed my observation. You are bringing it on yourself on your own.
And we know why... 🤭

Looking at his past posts, he has zero credibility. He is just another shameless afsos league mouth fodder.
If the economy does not recover, they will be able to do a lot more than whine.
They can't even lift their finger against Yunus except crying on online. And believe me, we are eager to see them on streets. 😁
.
And don't worry about our economy, we are recovering. This is why we deployed Mr Yunus...

Typical awami leaguer behavior...

Dude, GDP measures economic activity.

If Amazon builds the Alexas for $2 and sells it for £5 but then charges its factory a royalty of millions. Its factory will be making a loss.

You won’t be consuming or saving much!

GDP doesn’t measure profit and loss lol

If GDP was a combination of consumption and saving - it would be extremely easy to measure!

@UKBengali even @SoulSpokesman has fallen for the propaganda lol

I think we misunderstand each other.

By consumption I mean sales of cars, tvs, fridges etc.

Think about my analogy of the two men again. The one who has earnt the higher salary for longer has more money in his bank to buy consumer goods like cars, TVs and fridges.

GDP just measures the value of the goods and services an economy generates per year.

In the subcontinent most people will need to save for multiple years to buy even a decent fridge.

Anyway, BD is very tiny and so discourages imports of cars by massive tariffs and that is another reason why car use is so low.

All the best. Hope your tax collection recovers from the fall that happened during Dr. Yunus rule.

You crack me up dude! I love it.

There’s only two explanation for the fall in tax collection.

Economy is doing badly and/or corruption has sky rocketed.

You cannot avoid the conclusion indefinitely!

Honeymoon is well and truly over!

It will be BNP-BAL bhai bhai soon - to overthrow another incompetent interim government lol

A wise person would keep their mouth shut unless the main lenders showed concerns and objections.

People ask what’s the point of crowing about GDP?

The answer is it’s an indication of economic activity.

Why is this important?

The answer is, it is effectively a collateral for borrowing. Just like a bank will look at your assets and earnings before approving your mortgage - lenders to nation states look at GDP.

GDP dictates whether you can borrow. Once you have borrowed - it’s liquidity/reserve that dictates whether you can make the payments.

Some people assert lenders don’t give a toss about GDP - in which case you should have no issue revising the GDP down to satisfy your political ego.

@Joe Shearer and @UKBengali - it’s put up or shut up time.
OK, OK, don't get violent, I'll shut up.
:ROFLMAO:

Yes, it will be slow at first then steep decline after.

Anyway let’s see.

Pakistan and India are counting their chickens lol
No. Pakistan is considering shifting some of its garments industry to Bangladesh in return for Bangladesh increasing it's yarn imports from Pakistan. A win-win for both countries.

... In a brief presentation, former BIPPA president Imran Karim disclosed that private power producers are owed Tk 160 billion in arrears over the past four months. He noted that more than Tk 100 billion is owed to liquid fuel-based plants. ...
Is Tk 160 billion total what the Government owes to the IPPs or is that just what's been accumulated in the last 4 months on top of whatever the total is already?

Takeaway from the above two posts

#1 Prof Yunus says that growth under SHW was fake but doesnt say why. If BD's reported GDP is fake, then it is his govts obligation to tell us what is the real GDP. Shouldn't be very difficult for the Central Bank and BBS.

#2 BD's economy has slowed down after SHW left- he must deliver on current performance and not blame his predecessor.

@BananaRepublic @UKBengali @Afif
What if he's found out that he's not running an economy of $400 billion but it's $300 billion instead?

Ok, let's hit with valid data for home appliance market.

Seems like per capita BD buys more household appliances than India now. BD may have already reached the "critical mass" of wealth to afford consumer goods at the same level as India.

India is going to have higher growth over the rest of the decade maybe due to faster expected economic growth or BD has become saturated earlier.

Pakistan per capita is around half that of both BD and India and growing much slower than either.

@BananaRepublic @SoulSpokesman
