The visa sections of three Bangladesh missions in India have been closed temporarily on security grounds, Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain said on Friday.

“What I have done is that I have asked our three missions to keep their visa sections closed for the time being. It’s a security issue,” he told reporters at the foreign ministry, responding to a question on whether Bangladesh missions in India had restricted tourist visas for Indians.

He did not name the missions. However, diplomatic sources said the visa sections of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, and the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala have been closed.

The visa sections at Bangladesh missions in Chennai and Mumbai, however, remain operational, sources said.

Over the past few weeks, protests have taken place near Bangladesh missions in India.

Following the ouster of the Awami League regime, the Indian High Commission restricted tourist visas to Bangladeshis, citing security concerns.

Touhid was also asked about the dropping of Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from the Indian Premier League amid anti-Bangladesh protests in India, and Bangladesh’s decision not to send the national cricket team to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The adviser said he fully supported Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul’s stance on not sending the team to India for safety reasons and demanding that Bangladesh’s matches be relocated to co-host Sri Lanka.

“We will certainly play outside India,” Touhid said.

He added that both players and supporters would have to travel to India and said the government must consider their security.

Asked about the impact on bilateral relations, Touhid said such issues arise from time to time and each has some impact.

He said Bangladesh would take decisions based on its national interest.

“We have an interest in our players’ safety in not sending them to India. If we have interest in buying rice from India, we will buy it,” he added.

Ahead of the February 12 election and referendum, India has withdrawn all family members and dependents of diplomats and other officials from the High Commission of India and other missions located in Bangladesh, official sources said on Tuesday (January 20, 2026), citing prevailing security situation

A source informed that the evacuation of family members and dependents was carried out “given the security situation, as a precautionary measure”. Indian diplomats, however, said the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and all Posts in Bangladesh continue to operate in ‘full strength’.

Indian missions have been facing heightened security threat in Bangladesh, especially in the aftermath of the December 12, 2025 shooting of Islamist youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi. The threats started soon after reports and rumours were circulated suggesting that the shooters of Hadi had fled to India like deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

July Oikya Mancho, a radical student group, on December 17, 2025 had called for a march to the Indian High Commission, prompting India to summon High Commissioner of Bangladesh Riaz Hamidullah. The rally took place later on that day though they were stopped at a considerable distance. India had reminded Bangladesh’s interim government that it was the responsibility of the Government of Bangladesh to ensure safety and security of Indian missions and posts.

Subsequently, on the passing away of Hadi on December 18, a member of Bangladesh’s Hindu community Dipu Chandra Das was lynched and burnt on a street in Mymensingh, which triggered protests in West Bengal, Assam and Tripura, prompting Bangladesh to shut visa services for sometime. In a tit-for-tat move, Bangladesh also called upon India to ensure safety of its missions and posts in India

Unfortunate turn of events but very brave of them to have stayed on till date in Bangladesh.

India will withdraw its diplomats’ families and dependents from Bangladesh in the face of security threats as tension rises ahead of a February 12 general election, an Indian official said on Wednesday.

Campaigning begins on Thursday for Bangladesh’s election, which has sparked protests and counter-protests. Ties between the South Asian neighbours soured after former prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India in 2024, following deadly protests.

India’s past support for Hasina has frayed relations between the two neighbours since her overthrow.

India’s withdrawal move was part of “internal readjustments”, the official said, without elaborating. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, pointed to Indian media reports of New Delhi’s decision.

It was not immediately clear when the families would return.

The foreign ministries of India and Bangladesh did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In December, India summoned Bangladesh’s high commissioner, or ambassador to voice its concern over what it called a deteriorating security situation there, particularly threats targeting the Indian mission in the capital, Dhaka.

Bangladesh’s ex-premier Hasina was sentenced to death in November after a months-long trial that found her guilty of ordering a deadly crackdown on the student-led uprising in 2024.

'BNP will not interfere into the internal affairs of any other country neither will create any security threat to any other country.'

This probably means the BNP will not give any form of support to Mongoloid separatists and racial supremacists in India's north-east e.g. ULFA. This will lay the foundation of good relations between Bangladesh and India.

All Muslim nations except Pakistan have good relations with India, why should we be any different to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia?

Which one of these Muslim countries share border with India? Which one of these experiences interference in internal matters?

Which one of these countries have its citizen get killed by India? Including children.

You are fond of posting love pictures with India right? Here is one for you.

Grow a spine.

This guy is the leader for BJP in West Bengal. Not a small time nobody.

But we will still see typical Awami Dalals bending their back for Hindutva India and begging to get under their shoe like it was under Hasina.

Bunch of spineless cowards with zero self respect.

This guy picked out the election result, and gave it his own spin. Jamaat winning in bordering areas will lead to Greater Bangladesh according to him.

Here is the translation of his entire post -

While the entire world looks to Dhaka for regime change, a serious political consolidation has emerged on India’s eastern border.

In the 2026 Bangladesh elections, Jamaat-e-Islami has won 68 seats along the border, which are located opposite the sensitive border areas of West Bengal from Satkhira to Rangpur.

The Siliguri corridor is a strategic lifeline connecting India with the North-East. Any ideological consolidation across this region certainly requires extra vigilance and a strong border infrastructure.

Yet on the Indian side, the Trinamool Congress government has repeatedly failed to fully cooperate in the acquisition of land for the construction of the BSF fence along the border.

Even the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court had directed the state government to hand over the land required for the border fence and clearly stated that there should be no administrative delay in the interest of national security.

In this time of changing geopolitical situation, West Bengal needs:

✔ Full cooperation with the BSF.

✔ Completion of the work of fencing the border areas within the stipulated time frame.

✔ Zero tolerance policy against infiltration.

✔ Security-centric governance, not vote bank politics.

Only a BJP government, i.e. a “double engine” government, can secure West Bengal’s borders.

Any other outcome in 2026 and the rise of extremist political ideologies across the border will accelerate illegal infiltration and strengthen the idea of a so-called “Greater Bangladesh”.

West Bengal’s security is India’s security.

You have a deep hatred for India, which is understandable given that Jamaatis were defeated in 1971 when we fought for our independence.

Obviously if you see someone trying to go against the attempt to challenge India-hatred on this forum you will try to stop it and continue promoting India-hatred.
I could get images and pictures of what Pakistani soldiers did in 1971 and try to promote hatred of Pakistan, you don't see me promoting hatred of Pakistan on this forum. In fact you have even banned us discussing the 1971 war on this sub-forum, though Pakistanis can talk about it on other sub-forums. I could get videos of gulf Arabs abusing Bangladeshi workers and try to promote hatred of Arabs. At the end of day hating Pakistanis or hating Arabs achieve nothing.

I am critical of India when required but am not consumed with an obsessive hatred of India.

1. If you wish to go to war with India then please join the Pakistan army and serve on the front line, we Bangladeshis do not want a war with India.

However if India were to ever make the mistake of starting a war with Bangladesh it would be the end of the Indian union.

2. India-hatred achieves nothing because the problems of Bangladesh are not entirely due to India. How do India-haters explain the fact that even Bangladeshi people complain about corruption from Bangladeshi policemen, Bangladeshi government civil servants and Bangladeshi politicians?

Is RAW or India behind it when your local police officer in Sylhet or Dhaka demands bribery? Are you going to blame this on India due to your hatred of India?

3. India, India, India...Jamaat campaigns on a program of India-hatred. I and most Bangladeshis (nationalists now have 70% of seats in party, the same nationalist party that Jamaatis here have called the B-team of BAL) are not interested in hatred against India.

The USA was involved in the mass slaughter of Gazans from 2023-2025, why do you not cross over from Canada next door and challenge the USA then?

If we follow the logic of India-haters then Bangladesh should start a war with the USA or not even trade with "evil Muslim killer" USA. However India-haters only apply this 'logic' and reserve their hatred for India.

A piece of advice buddy, just remove the hatred of India from your heart. Hatred is not a positive emotion and does not achieve anything.

P.S.

Enjoy these pics and If you want to fight India, please leave Canada and go to the India-Bangladesh border where you will be arrested by the BGB as a troublemaker even if you scream "Bharati-dalal".

An epic and beautiful response.

The only thing that explains the India hatred is the servitude of Pakistan.

If it was based on love of country - he would also hate Pakistan and Burma.

If it was based on love of Islam and umma he would hate USA and west ten times more.

Hate achieves nothing.

We have to navigate geopolitical realities to maximise the benefits for our nation.

Bangladesh first. Hate is not even in the laundry list.
