In an ideal world your arguments would make perfect sense. But BCCI and IPL runs on money, not on righteousness. If BCCI is threatened with an economic loss they are going to bend. Is this righteous? No. It is simply a better business decision. It's a lose - lose situation do you want to anger BD fans who are already angry with whatever about India, or you want to anger Indian fans, after BD spreading those hate online, you want India to accept BD players making money off IPL and thereby fans boycotting the game. No.
You’re conflating political considerations with sports management, which I believe is the core issue of disagreement here.

BCCI’s mandate is to promote the interests of Indian cricket. This is not served well by banning a player for his or her nationality alone, i.e., guilt by association rather than individual actions.

If a player has done no wrong, you cannot, on principle, exclude him or her, period. That is what institutional integrity is. For a sport that has fewer than ten countries dedicated to playing it, excluding our neighbours on this basis is harmful to Indian cricket in the long run.

If today, on the basis of nationality, commercial interests, and public sentiment, one takes decisions, then you are not safeguarding Indian cricket but its means of earning money. Sports management and political considerations are not the same and are often at odds with each other.

We’ve showcased a detachment of business and political considerations with China, why the double standards here?

Bangladesh orders indefinite ban on IPL telecast after Mustafizur Rahman row

Dawn Sport
January 5, 2026

The Bangladesh government on Monday ordered an indefinite ban on the telecast and promotion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the controversy surrounding the removal of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad, The Daily Star reported.

The development comes after KKR said on Saturday they had released the Bangladesh bowler after being told to do so by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Bangladesh are scheduled to play three T20 World Cup matches in Kolkata next month, with the February 7-March 8 tournament being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

On Sunday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said after an emergency meeting that it had “formally requested” the International Cricket Council (ICC) shift its team’s games to Sri Lanka.

A statement from the ministry of information and broadcasting said that it had “noted that no reason was communicated for the decision behind Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion [from the IPL]” and that the development had “caused distress among the people of Bangladesh”, Daily Star reported.

“In this context, a decision has been taken regarding the broadcast of IPL matches,” the statement said, adding that the decision had been taken “in public interest”.

It was signed by the ministry’s assistant secretary Firoz Khan.

“There is no logical reason for this decision of the Indian Cricket Board and such a decision has distressed, shocked and angered the people of Bangladesh,” the government statement further said, according to India Today.

Worsened relations between India, Bangladesh

The developments come against the backdrop of soured political relations between India and Bangladesh after a mass uprising in Dhaka in 2024 toppled then-prime minister Sheikh Hasina, a close ally of New Delhi.

India’s foreign ministry last month condemned what it called “unremitting hostility against minorities” in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s interim leader, Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, has accused India of exaggerating the scale of the violence.

Last year, the ICC allowed India to play Champions Trophy matches in the United Arab Emirates due to sour relations with hosts Pakistan.

Pakistan will also play all their matches of the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, as part of a deal that allows both India and Pakistan to play at neutral venues in multi-nation tournaments.

On Sunday, cricket news site Cricbuzz reported that the BCB would ask the BCCI for a formal explanation regarding Mustafizur’s release.

The ICC did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

I was talking from Bangladeshi perspective as the clowns currently controlling BCB didn't let Shakib, who is possibly one of the greatest all-rounders in the world and undoubtedly the greatest cricketer ever to play for Bangladesh to play his final matches in Bangladesh jersey.

However, these hypocrites expect India to allow Fizz to play in the IPL and started crying as soon as he got kicked out.

The delusions of an Indian slave. What next?

It actually fits the current situation perfectly. The BCB is crying about Fizz being kicked out of the IPL because of political tension between the two countries, while at the same time — under instructions from their lord advisor Asif — they didn’t allow Shakib to return to Bangladesh and play his farewell matches. Why? Simply because he was involved in politics.

Asif openly said that Shakib was discouraged from returning to Bangladesh, and he publicly instructed BCB that Shakib should no longer be selected for the national team.

They say sports should never be mixed with politics when it suits them. Such verses from BCB sounds hollow, because they themselves mixed sports and politics first.

BCCI is the regulatory body of the IPL. They have every right to ban or exclude any player from the tournament even after the auction, and franchises r required to follow their directives.

What a doe dirt! With such intellectual faculties no wonder Awami Mujib murids need to rely on Indian help to stay in power.

Then again sore losers will defend another sore loser.

India showed us how to mix politics with sports.

If you want to equate Shakib with this situation I have a bridge to sell.

There are multiple threads about Bangladesh cricket. They should all be merged with giant mega Sega worldcup thread

Is that dude actually a Bangladeshi, he seems obsessed with India and is always on their side over Bangladesh

If you ever want to know how a few hundred thousand british were able to rule bengal and India for 200 years, look no further, its people like this who made it possible.

There is a sub section of Bengalis who have been crying since 47. Since they can't openly say that they hate islam and its tenants they use Pakistan as its place holder and will do anything and everything possible to revert back to the ways of their low caste ancestors who spent all their lives venerating their brahaman overlords.

One of them is no other than BangaBoltu Mujib.

He is the guy that introduced secularism into Bangladesh. Secularism have no place in Bangladesh, if so then why did we join Pakistan in the first place.

Their logic don’t make sense.

Bangladesh have formally declined to play their T20 World Cup matches in India due to security concerns, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider changes to the tournament’s schedule and venues, Aaj News reported.

According to Indian media reports, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially informed the ICC that it will not send its team to India for the T20 World Cup. A BCB spokesperson said the decision was taken due to security concerns for players and officials.

The spokesperson said an emergency meeting of the BCB board of directors was convened, during which consultations were held with the government.

Following these deliberations, it was decided that the team would not travel to India. Ensuring the safety of players and officials, the spokesperson added, was unavoidable under the current circumstances.
