India can't be a member because it's not a Muslim country and it is officially secular. If possible, why would India join such a moribund group that has accomplished little since its founding?

The only important thing the OIC has accomplished is changing its name from the Organization of Islamic Conference to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. You would think an EU-like structure would emerge with free trade, visa-free travel, and possibly one currency, but none of that has happened. Instead of defending the ummah, they do nothing but produce statements about Kashmir, Palestine, whatever.

Why would anyone, let alone India, join such a group? Pakistan can have it all to itself.

Thing is, OIC can be used for diplomacy reasons. OIC can accomplish diplomatic points. Useful for uniting the Sunni Muslim nations for a common cause, etc.

That's away from south Asia and now viewed as part of another region

While Pakistan has launched 3 wars and 3 decades long insurgency to capture Kashmir from India and gained bupkiss.

Look @Jaeger , you can keep barking all you want. There is supposed to be a plebiscite in Indian occupied Kashmir. No plebiscite, means Pakistan can declare war on India because we have been cheated.

I have even met Indians overseas in the Middle East and in Canada, and they don't agree with their government's stance on the Kashmir dispute.

I talked to a few Indians from Chandigarh, and asked them "Why don't you let the Kashmiris decide their destiny?"

The Indian lady said that is the fault of the Indian domestic politics. No Indian politician will budge on Kashmir, or they will be seen as traitors.

The Indian lady also said she too believe in democracy and self-determination for all peoples which includes the Kashmiris.

India general only wanted to have a small peg in Lahore Gymkhana only after Pakistan launched another failed attempt to capture Kashmir from India.
