Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate, on Friday warned of potential tough economic retaliatory measures against Thailand, including a halt to oil imports.

In a statement posted on his social media account on Friday, Hun Sen criticized a proposal by a Thai opposition party calling on the Thai government to halt oil exports to Cambodia, warning that such action could backfire and cause significant economic damage to Thailand, particularly to its state-owned energy firm PTT.

Hun Sen described the proposal as a “dangerous game that could lead to self-destruction,” asserting that Cambodia would not be brought to its knees by such a move.

Previously, Cambodia had ceased buying internet services and electricity from Thailand, banned the broadcasting of Thai films, and urged Cambodian workers in Thailand to return home. In addition, Cambodia prohibited the entry of Thai vegetables, fruits, and other agricultural products through its border gates.

seems they are heading to a full blown confrontation.

No wonder I saw some Thai YouTuber with thumbnails, and when I clicked the video, full of hateful and war mongering comments against Cambodia.

those youtubers are like street noise: worthless. more important is if Cambodia can stand up against Thailand? on paper the Khmers have no chance. they have less people, weaker economy, weaker army. Hun Sen can be tough because he knows he has the backing from China. I think the Thais are screwed.

yes but Cambodia has 0 chance. the Thai are more powerful. but there is no reason for Hun Sen to worry. even in the worst case scenario Cambodia is thrown under a bus by the Chinese, I think Vietnam would stop Thailand. Thailand resentment towards is a thing of the past. Thailand was much bigger than it is today. until Vietnam reduced Thailand to a minor player.

No times for this, the world is already full of chaos.

there will be more wars coming not less.
Thailand is in economic, political crisis. they need nationalism. looks the army will topple the gov soon.
as for replacement of Thai vegetables, fruits, cars, electronics, etc. Cambodia can buy everything from Vietnam with half of the costs.

Nope, there won’t be any confrontation.

The Thai PM was too naive when dealing with Hun Sen and now her government is fragile with some coalition partners withdrawing. But to say, there will be confrontation is delusional at most. Hunsen, the dictator, needed this issue to keep him politically strong against dwindling support. He wants his son to be next in line.

Thailand is strong economically, with second largest in ASEAN. They’ve been having spluttering growth in the last decade but economically Thailand is a force to be reckoned with in the ASEAN context.

There is another issue of Thailand building a casino which will lay waste to Cambodia’s casino in Poi pet.

Again, if Thailand wants to tackle Hunsen, there are several ways. One is to crank up NGOs to highlight Cambodia’s HR excesses. Thailand won’t explore that avenue ofcourse and both countries will arrive to an amicable solution.

Thailand exports oil?

There will be no war between Thailand and Cambodia, China will mediate.

yes I just verified the number.
Thailand has many oil refineries. they run surplus. they produce more than they consume. 20 percent of export go to Cambodia.
so if oil embargo from where Cambodia will import instead?
that’s a big gamble.
Vietnam oil refineries can’t deliver. maybe in few years but not now. we don’t have much surplus.

Modern transnational platforms are an example of how payment systems can be conveniently adapted to meet user needs. Sharing this because I was specifically looking for casinos where I didn’t have to put in a massive first deposit just to test the waters. I found https://payiddeposit.com/ while comparing PayID options, and it pointed me toward low-minimum deposit info without heaps of fluff. Worth checking before you spend your arvo opening random sites.

You are correct in saying that a full-scale military conflict or a deep geopolitical confrontation between Thailand and Cambodia is unlikely, as both sides have a pragmatic interest in economic stability. Your points accurately reflect the internal dynamics of both countries, but the current context introduces important adjustments in these areas.
