Cargo plane crashed off Karachi coast

  • K2 Airways Cargo 737 overdue in Karachi
  • Aircraft was en route from Sharjah
  • Last ADS-B data indicates low altitude, high rate of descent
Authorities have launched a search effort for K2 Airways Cargo 737 AP-BOI after the flight did not land as scheduled in Karachi. KTA1732 was en route from Sharjah to Karachi when contact was lost with the aircraft. Preliminary ADS-B data indicate a loss of altitude, followed by a climb, and then a second, sudden and dramatic loss of altitude. The final received data point from the aircraft was at 16:21 UTC, placing the aircraft at 1,100 ft AMSL with a reported vertical rate of -22,400 feet per minute.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.​


 
Rescue operation started :

PNS ZULFIQAR has been diverted to the affected area.
• Pakistan Air Force Saab aircraft is airborne from Bolhari.
• Pakistan Navy ATR-72 aircraft is airborne from Turbat.
• Pakistan National Shipping Corporation merchant vessel "Lahore" has also been deployed and is participating in the ongoing Search & Rescue operation.
 
Prior to the conflict, Airlines used to fly right over the coast lines of Baluchistan/Iran before crossing the Persian Gulf.

Now, Airlines can't go near Iran, hence have a longer flight path over the Sea, before entering into Pakistan Airspace.

Diversion (into Iran) or even crash landing by coast line would/could have given a slight chance of survival.

Also, I'm surprised why 5 Crew Members onboard a B737 cargo.

You don't require Cabin Crew. You don't require a Flight Engineer. And you don't require a Load Master.

A buddy of mine flies a B747-400F. Even on that BEAST, it requires only the Flight Deck crew.

Perhaps ferrying a crew back to KHI?

Interestingly, at one point Kalitta used to have a chief mechanic in addition to the flight deck crew on their aircraft. Then again, that was when Connie's fleet consisted of the oldest 747s in the air. The one I rode on in 2006 was #2 out of the factory.

RIP to all 5 souls onboard.......i wonder what caused the navigational issues? Sabotage in UAE ??


i really hope it wasn't hit by something in the area.......

Can't rule out sabotage or even something hitting it inadvertently.
 
Shortly after takeoff the aircraft, all others in the region, experienced GNSS interference, resulting in the degraded data near Sharjah and transition to MLAT tracking by Flightradar24.

 
Update on the K2 Airways CrashIt has now been officially confirmed that all five crew members aboard the K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 have tragically passed away.The crew, all Pakistani nationals, have been named as:·
Captain: Muhammad Rizwan Idris·
First Officer: Faisal Jatui·
Flight Engineers: Muhammad Hamid & Muhammad Arif Siddiqui·
Loadmaster: Muhammad Taufiq Khan.

Who owns this airline - cargo was bound for Karachi - wonder what the manifest is.
METAR looked pretty clear.
Owned by the Raja's of Karachi ( they have fingers in a lot of pies). Mainly contracted for shipping of fruit, perishables and NFIs.

K2 started in 2018, off the back of failed merger/joint operations deal with the now defunct charter company Eastern Sky Jets registered in Dubai.

Unlike ESJ K2 is a wholly Pakistani owned and operated business. Interesting K2's first aircraft was going to be the DC9 flown by ESJ which failed it's ABC checks.

This is their old route dating back to 2021, they actually secured a new route for China last year and maintained an old route dating back to 2024 for western Asia.

Interestingly - On the order of 5–10% of non‑pilot‑error air crashes occur in the immediate post‑maintenance window (e.g., first few flight hours after checks), with most of the risk in the first 1–10 flight hours.

That UPS MD-11 that went down last year had also just come off a 6 week heavy maintenance cycle with inspectors not flagging the cracks in the engine pylon.
