The promotional campaign of the updated 001 liftback featured Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese Formula 1 driver and the second driver of the Zeekr series. In this respect he is writing AutoHome.
“HE [Чжоу Гуаньюй] race car driver, fashionista, and artist who constantly pushes boundaries,” says Zeekr. The Chinese star will compete for the Stake F1 team in the 2024 season. At the 2022 British Grand Prix, Zhou was involved in an accident and the race was stopped. In the field of fashion, he collaborated with Dior, Prada, Lululemon and Hublot brands.
In the updated version of the Liftback, the interior has been slightly changed and modern power plants have been introduced, which will allow faster charging of batteries. The minimum time required to replenish energy reserves from 10% to 80% will be 11.5 minutes. The most powerful version of 001 will reach 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Power reserve ranges from 626 to 750 km.
The premiere of the new product is planned to be held on February 27.

Today in tweets on Weibo and Twitter Zeekr announced the 10,000th Zeekr 007 sedan rolled off the production line. Seeing as this figure has taken all of 56 days it’s no mean feat with a much faster ramp up in production than previous Zeekr models

Zeekr Vice President, Lin Jinwen, previously said that he expected the brand to deliver between 5,000 and 6,000 of the 007 in January. The company reportedly aims to surpass sales of the Tesla Model 3 this year – presumably that means sales in the China market rather than worldwide.
Previously Zeekr announced that they received 51,569 orders in the 40 days leading up the 007’s launch in December.

The Zeekr 007 has a length, width and height of 4865/1900/1450 mm with a wheelbase of 2928mm. Curb weight is 2,150 kg. Customers have a choice of two batteries, an in house developed Golden Battery or the CATL supplied Qilin. The 75 kWh Golden Battery is a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) unit which gives the 007 a CLTC range of 688 km. More impressive still the battery can add a 500 km range to the 007 in just 15 minutes with peak charging power of 500 kW. On the other hand the 100 kWh Qilin (NCM) equipped version gets 870 km range. The 007 is the first Zeekr to actually provide 800V architecture.

Both a rear wheel drive and all-wheel drive version of the Zeekr 007 are available. Both use the same 310 kW (440 Nm torque) silicon carbide rear motor as in the all-out performance Zeekr 001 FR. In addition all-wheel drive versions add a 165 kW front motor providing an additional 270 Nm torque. This is enough to give the car a 2.84 seconds acceleration time against 5.4 seconds for the RWD version.
High-end versions of the car get a 90-inch light strip which can communicate messages to other road users using more than 2,400 LED lights. The headlight beams can reach for 189 meters.

The Zeekr 007 range starts at 209,900 yuan (29,200 USD) and goes up to 299,900 yuan (41,700 USD). Currently the Zeekr range is on sale in China and limited sales have begun in Europe with the brand also destined for Mexico. Zeekr is a premium all electric brand from Geely.

On February 21st, we received news that Buick has officially launched the upgraded version of the E4 electric vehicle in China. The new model is available in four different configurations, with prices ranging from 159,900 to 229,900 yuan (22,200 USD to 32,000 USD). The E4 was originally launched in mid-2023 with a starting price of 26,400 USD. The new price with steep discounts indicates the ongoing price war happening in China’s NEV sector.

The vehicle comes equipped with the latest eConnect smart connectivity system, which includes a variety of in-car applications such as Migu Quick Game, Migu, Kugou Music, and QQ Music. Additionally, the intelligent voice experience has been upgraded with the addition of multiple voice options for users to choose from.
A look at the E4 cockpit display
In terms of exterior color options, the new Buick E4 offers a range of choices, including Night Black, Cloudy Cyan, Ashen Gray, Winter Birch White, Eden Purple, and Pinecone Green. The interior will be available in five different versions: Titanium Gray, Light White, Nightfall Purple, Cardamom Green, and GS Night Copper. Overall, the design of the new model remains highly consistent with the current E4 lineup.

Regarding features and technology, the new E4 is equipped with the all-new VCS intelligent cockpit, featuring a standard EYEMAX 30-inch curved 6K display and integrated 8155 chip. Furthermore, the vehicle introduces several new in-car applications and a dual-zone voice recognition system for the driver and front passenger, which can execute 10 consecutive commands within 25 seconds.
Buick E4 with advertised discount
In terms of range, the top-of-the-line model offers a maximum power output of 211 kW, peak torque of 465 Nm, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. It has a CLTC-rated (China’s standardized system) range of 620 kilometers. The three single-motor versions provide a maximum power output of 180 kW, a peak torque of 330 Nm, an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, and a CLTC-rated range of 530 kilometers. As an entry-level mid-size SUV in SAIC General Motors’ Buick lineup, the car was reported to have high sales aims when it was first introduced last year. With the introduction of the upgraded model, a steep discount off its original price, all the while significantly enhancing the smart technology features, makes this vehicle even more appealing to consumers by offering better value for money. This is definitely a development worth paying attention to, and we will keep an eye on its sales performance in 2024.

In a significant update to its vehicle lineup, Nio has opened pre-orders for seven of its 2024 model cars.

This move encompasses a range of models, including the ET5T, new ES8, and others, maintaining the same price point as their predecessors while promising enhanced performance and an improved driving experience. The vehicles are scheduled for delivery starting in early March.
The models set for this update include the 2024 Nio ES8, ES7, EC7, ES6, EC6, ET5, and ET5T. According to the release schedule, the ES8, EC7, ES6, EC6, and ET5T will be delivered in March 2024. The ET5 will follow in April 2024, and the ES7 in May 2024. Additionally, the ET7 is slated for an April 2024 release.

EC6EC7ES6ES7ES8ET5ET5T
A key feature of the 2024 models is integrating the new central computing platform, ADAM, equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 cockpit chip. It approximately doubles the CPU performance, triples the GPU performance, and eight times the AI computing power compared to the previous 8155 chip. Including four NVIDIA Orin X chips, boasting 48 CPU cores, 256 matrix operation units, 8096 floating-point operation units, and a staggering 68 billion transistors, it culminates in a computing power of up to 1016 TOPS.
Nio’s central computing platform, ADAM, exemplifies a strategic move towards efficiency and performance by consolidating functions across different domains. It significantly reduces the number of controllers required and allows for up to 256 TOPS of computing power to be distributed across smart driving, smart cabin, and vehicle control functionalities. By utilizing dedicated chipsets for the smart cockpit and autonomous driving tasks, Nio enhances these systems’ operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Moreover, the 2024 models will introduce the NOMI GPT function, which Nio claims to be the industry’s first large-scale, multi-modal sensing model deployed entirely on-device. NOMI GPT enables the identification of thousands of items through in-car cameras without an internet connection, ensuring ultra-fast response times and enhanced privacy, as private data does not leave the vehicle. This function transcends conventional question-and-answer and information retrieval capabilities, allowing users to interact with NOMI through natural language, describing their needs and preferences.

In addition to these upgrades, the 2024 model also has upgrades in vehicle configuration, including:
  • The 2024 ES8 has four new standard soft pillows and is available in the “Moonlight Silver” color option. The “Multifunctional Executive Desk,” customized and developed specifically for the ES8, will be launched in the car mall in March. Users who have already taken delivery of the car can support it. Optional;
  • The 2024 ES7 adds standard rear seat massage function and 4 soft pillows, adopts a new steering wheel lever, and the enhanced head-up display system (HUD) size is upgraded to 16 inches, with new “Moonlight Silver” and “22-inch Forged High-gloss rims” and “N-Box enhanced entertainment host” options;
  • The 2024 EC7 now comes standard with 4 soft pillows;
  • The 2024 ES6 and EC6 have been optimized through software to increase the CLTC cruising range of the standard 75 kWh battery pack and 20-inch rim models to 500 kilometers and 505 kilometers, respectively;
  • The 2024 ET5 has a new optional “N-Box enhanced entertainment host.
As Nio rolls out its 2024 models, it has also announced that the existing 2023 models will continue to be available with purchase discounts, inviting prospective buyers to consult Nio officials for detailed information on these offers.

On February 22nd, Chinese smart electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng announced a strategic partnership with UAE-based distributor group Ali & Sons, marking a milestone in the company’s international growth strategy. Early last year, Xpeng announced its entry into the parts of the European market, and 2024 is proving to be the year it also aims for the Middle East. As part of its “Go Abroad 2.0” strategy, Xpeng is attempting to attract an increasing number of overseas distributors who share the vision of delivering their technology in smart electric vehicles to local consumers.

Xpeng has already established strategic partnerships with distributor groups in the Middle East and Africa, including Ali & Sons in the UAE, RAYA Group in Egypt, SR Group in Azerbaijan, T Gargour & Fils Group in Jordan, and Gargour Asia SAL Group in Lebanon. Starting from the second quarter, Xpeng’s diverse range of vehicle models will be available for sale and delivery in five countries across the Middle East and Africa region.

Led by Vice Chairman and Co-President Gu Hongdi and Ali & Sons’ Founder and Chairman H.E. Ali bin Khalfan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, Xpeng is leveraging its product portfolio and technology to accelerate its overseas market expansion. Following the strategic partnership with distributor groups in the Middle East and Africa this year, Xpeng plans to sell the Xpeng G6 and G9 SUV models in Jordan and Lebanon in the second quarter and the UAE and Egypt in the third quarter. In September last year, it was revealed that the G9 would be sold in Sweden.

Tang Zhikun, General Manager of Xpeng’s International Business department, stated, “The new markets we are announcing today are recognized as the core of the new energy vehicle market growth and represent a visionary step for Xpeng’s entry into the EMEA market. Our goal is to become an industry leader in intelligent electric vehicles. We are committed not only to developing products that meet local customer needs but also to delivering leading technology experiences and high-quality services to global customers.”
The Xpeng G9
Moreover, Xpeng aims to expand its presence in other European markets, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and France, throughout this year. By focusing on Europe and now the potential markets in the Middle East and Africa, Xpeng plans to introduce more adapted vehicle models to increase sales and market share in 2024.
As the expansion of intelligent driving vehicles continues to grow, industry experts predict that China’s passenger car exports may reach 5 million units in 2024. Xpeng plans to capitalize on that growth by accelerating its “Go Abroad 2.0” strategy. We will keep a close eye on what further partnerships await Xpeng on the international stage.

The YangWang U9 sports car from BYD uncovered more specs before the official launch scheduled for February 25. The new information mainly focuses on this beast’s powertrain, chassis, and body. It can speed up to 100 km/h in 2 seconds, jump, and dance.

YangWang is a high-end new energy vehicle (BEV + PHEV/EREV) brand under BYD, launched in early 2023. Its model line currently comprises a single car: the YangWang U8 extended range off-road SUV with a starting price of 1,096,000 yuan (150K USD). The U8 entered the Chinese market in November last year. Its cumulative deliveries reached 3,653 units, with 1,652 vehicles sold in January 2024.
YangWang U9 next to the McLaren Senna
YangWang plans to extend its product line this year, starting with the U9 electric supercar. It will launch on February 25. However, the brand’s officials willingly shared valuable insights on this beast before the event.

YangWang U9 new specs

YangWang U9 has four TZ220XYAK electric motors made by BYD. Each e-motor has a peak power of 240 kW (322 hp). The combined power of this supercar reaches 960 kW (1,287 hp). YangWang officials disclosed the peak torque of the system reaches 1,680 Nm at 21,000 rpm. As a result, the YangWang U9 can speed up to 100 km/h in 2 seconds.
According to YangWang, the U9 adopts the world’s first U-shaped motor design, providing a lower center of gravity. It also has high-temperature and demagnetization-resistant permanent magnets that improve motor efficiency. They can withstand temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius. Usually, the magnet of the e-motor can handle a temperature of around 140 degrees Celsius.
It also has a silicon carbide controller, which boosts the maximum transmission efficiency to 99.8%. For clarity, the efficiency of conventional automatic gearboxes ranges from 86% to 94%. The thermal management system of the YangWang U9 comprises dual electronic pumps on the front and rear axles. Each of them is independently controlled, cooling the motors.

The YangWang U9 is equipped with the DiSus-X chassis. Aside of dancing and jumping, this supercar can take corners faster, brake without nodding, and start without raising the front end. The DiSus-X suspension can lift each axle with a speed of 500 mm/s thanks to the maximum power of 36 kW provided by the 800V platform.
The body of the YangWang U9 adopts carbon fiber and the next-gen structure. The lightweight body coefficient reaches 0.95. As for the torsional rigidity, it is 54,425 Nm. The rear spoiler of the U9 provides downforce of up to 280 kg.
However, there is a fly in the ointment. The curb weight of the U9 is 2,475 kg. It is almost twice the weight of Porsche 911 (992). Its battery pack alone weighs 633 kg. So, it is quite heavy for the supercar.

YangWang U9 basics

The YangWang U9’s dimensions are 4966/2029/1295 mm with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. It has an LFP battery pack on board with a capacity of 80 kWh. It has 465 km of CLTC range. BYD will manufacture the YangWang U9 in its motherland: Shenzhen, China. Its price and other details will be revealed on February 25.

Previously, CarNewsChina reported that the following two YangWang models are a U7 sedan with a 135.5 kWh battery and an unnamed fastback SUV. These cars will help BYD to rival Legacy brands. This year, YangWang will also enter overseas markets. Most likely under a different name, as the second part of the YangWang has negative connotations in English slang.

Neta Auto revealed the name of its first electric kombi – Neta SS. The car was previously known under the codename EP41 and will have a public debut in April at the Beijing Auto Show.

Neta is a brand under Hozon Auto. Their new kombi, or as Americans say – station wagon – is based on the Neta S sedan. Hozon revealed official spy shots last month, and CarNewsChina learned that it would be equipped with Hesai’s AT128 LiDAR sensor and priced at 300,000 yuan (41,700 USD).
Neta S has dimensions of 4980/1980/1450 mm with a wheelbase of 2980 mm, and Neta SS will most likely share it. It is available in both EV and EREV variants. The top-trim Neta S has a peak power of 340 kW and a range of 650 km.

Neta is in full swing with its Southeast Asia expansions. It is building production facilities in Thailand and Indonesia, selling EVs in Malaysia, and even started deliveries of right-hand drive vehicles in Thailand in 2022. In June last year, Neta exported 4000 cars to overseas markets, 3,600 of which were a single batch to Thailand.
Furthermore, the company announced its intention to expand into Europe, most likely with a strong focus on Germany, the largest auto market in the region. This move would follow the footsteps of its competitors like Nio, BYD, Lynk&Co, and Great Wall Motor, who have already established a presence in the country.

Unlike in China or the US, station wagons are still popular in Europe, especially in Germany so that the Neta SS would be a perfect fit. Of course, they are being replaced by SUVs, and their fame is just fragments of what it used to be in the 90s, but Germany is one of the last station wagon strongholds. And the Chinese know it. Nio, for example, launched the estate variant of its ET5 sedan, ET5 Touring, to satisfy the needs of EU customers, according to the company. It was also the first car Nio launched in Europe at the same time as in China.

Another Chinese brand, SAIC-owned MG, took a similar approach. In 2022, the former British automaker launched the MG5 in Europe, the world’s first electric station wagon, according to the company. MG didn’t even bother in China – the MG5 on the local market is only an ICE sedan with zero stars in the ANCAP crash test.
In October last year, Neta inked a cooperation agreement with Europe’s largest bank, BNP Paribas. The cooperation memorandum included financing, car insurance, and other services. The move was widely interpreted as an essential step towards entering European markets.
Neta SS revealed testing in spyshot.
In April last year, Neta established a European subsidiary and started preparations for its car models, including the NETA S and NETA GT, to enter the EU market.
“We will start selling in Europe in the first quarter of next year. I expect the local market to give us some surprises. I think we have a chance in the European market with the competitiveness of our products,” Hozon Auto co-founder and CEO Zhang Yong said to China Daily.
For 2024, Neta has an ambitious plan to follow in the footsteps of its rival BYD, establish a presence in 50 global markets, and sell 100,000 vehicles overseas. In 2023, Neta sold 127,496 EVs 2023, down 16.16% from 152,073 the year before.

Zhang recently posted on his Weibo a survey asking Neta fans which badge would suit the new Neta SS best. Let us know which is your favorite in the comments.
Neta SS will start deliveries in mid-2024 in China and hit overseas markets later. We’ll keep an eye on it.

Zeekr thanks to the 007 really seems to be beginning to hit the big time sales wise. The brand hopes to add to that success with the mid-life upgrade of its first car the 001 which originally went on sale in 2021. Following on from yesterday’s article we bring you more details.

In terms of specifications the new version will address some of the shortcomings of the original. Perhaps most importantly the car will finally get 800V architecture which will help with recharging times. Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform was designed by CEVT in Europe and from the start has been compatible with the technology but for some reason the 001, which was the first car to use the new platform, didn’t feature 800V electrical architecture.

Another key omission on the original was Lidar, with the car coming about six months too early for the wave where every car in the price bracket had it. Equipped with Lidar the upgrade should gain considerably better ADAS capabilities. There will also be a wide-screen 35.5-inch augmented reality head up display. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip powers the cockpit, it’s the company flagship fourth generation chip and allows comprehensive AI driven voice control.

Appearance wise the revised car looks more like the newer Zeekr 001 FR versions with a similar front. The new lower front air vents are wider, and deflector grooves larger giving the car a more aggressive look. There are options for orange brake calipers and a tow hook – the car has a 2 ton towing capacity. Lower spec versions of the car will not have Lidar. Dimensions of the new car are slightly different with length, width and height at 4977/1999/1545 mm, and the wheelbase is 3005mm. While the wheelbase and width are the same this is slightly longer than the original which was 4970 mm and also lower, the original was 1560 mm.
Inside the car gets an upgrade in terms of material quality with touches like the wireless charging area now being covered with suede plus there is also a new three spoke steering wheel. The center screen is now a 15.05-inch 2.5K OLED unit. Reportedly the car also gets a 5D viewing mode which can replicate things such as wind. Like in the XPeng G9 the seats also vibrate to music.

Power is up considerably on the original which used 200 kW motors on the rear and additionally the front in the all-wheel drive version. With the upgrade the car uses the same 310 kW (440 Nm torque) silicon carbide rear motor as used by the Zeekr 007. All-wheel drive versions then adds a 270 kW motor to the front axle. Acceleration time for the performance version is 3.3 seconds (0-100 km/h, 0-62 mph).

Qilin batteries from CATL in packs of 95 kWh and 100 kWh provide the electrons. The smaller pack can charge from 10-80% in 11.5 minutes and in the rear-wheel drive version provides 722 km of range or 626 km in the performance model. Charging time for the 100 kWh pack is marginally slower at 15 minutes and means the car can travel up to 750 km CLTC in the rear wheel drive version or 656 km for the all-wheel drive.
Underlying Zeekr’s high hopes for the upgrade are some offers to mark the launch which mean the car should offer even better value for money. This gives people who purchase the upgrade before March 31 a 10,000 yuan (1,400 USD) discount on the final price.

Editor’s note:

The Zeekr 001 is one of the best driving electric cars I have driven to date but even when I originally tested it I thought there were some serious omissions. While the SEA platform has always been capable of employing 800V electrical architecture they chose to leave the debut of that to the Lotus Eletre. The upgrade fixes that along with lack of Lidar. When launched the 001 was just before pretty much every car in the price bracket had it and I can’t help but feel this made the car uncompetitive very shortly after it was launched to people who valued tech and self-driving capability. The new version will continue to rely on Mobileye self-driving technology but with Lidar on the more expensive versions of the 001 the car should be far more capable. Like with XPeng’s P7i upgrade this upgrade should help a very good car to remain competitive over the next few years.

Jetour, a Chinese automaker affiliated under the Chery brand, has introduced the PRO edition of its X90 SUV, an ICE vehicle. This edition is an upgraded version of the X90 Plus edition, which was upgraded last year after its original launch in 2021. The exterior remains almost identical. However, the interior more closely resembles its PHEV counterpart, the Jetour L9, which features various design enhancements, particularly on the inside of the SUV. The X90 PRO is now available for pre-order and is scheduled to be officially launched in March.

The exterior of the Jetour X90 PRO still has a fairly modern look, characterized by a large waterfall-style grille, which enhances its large presence. The SUV has split-type headlights and integrated LED light strips, giving it a more contemporary style than Jetour’s recently introduced rugged SUV, the Jetour JMK Traveller. The side and rear profiles remain similar to the L9, with the addition of a “390TGDI” badge on the fenders to indicate its fuel-powered nature. The rear features continuous taillights and dual exhaust outlets. With dimensions measuring 4858/1925/1780 mm, the X90 PRO offers a fairly large interior and a wheelbase of 2850mm.

Inside the cabin, the Jetour X90 PRO showcases a simplified design language. The central focus is a 15.6-inch frameless touchscreen display. The interior features premium-style materials and finishes, including a crystal gear shift knob, suspended speakers, brushed wood grain accents, and piano black trims. The X90 PRO is available in both 5-seat and 7-seat configurations, with the 5-seat variant offering a large cargo space of 1634 liters.

The Jetour X90 PRO has two engine options. The first is a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power output of 197 horsepower and a peak torque of 290 Nm. The second option is a 2.0-liter TGDI engine, producing 254 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, aiming for smooth and efficient power delivery.

During the pre-order period, Jetour offers various incentives for potential buyers of the X90 PRO, including trade-in allowances, cash rebates, extended vehicle warranties for the first owner, and 5 years of free data connectivity (6GB/month). The X90 PRO is priced between 129,900 (18,000 USD) and 171,900 yuan (24,000 USD), making it a competitive option for customers looking for premium style with above-average features at a reasonable price point.
Jetour’s introduction of the X90 PRO reflects its faith that the ICE vehicle market still has room for new vehicles. With its upgraded design, advanced features, and competitive pricing, it will be interesting to compare the sales figures of the X90 PRO and its PHEV counterpart, the L9, in 2024.
