Chinese car brands reached their highest-ever market share in Europe in May, after sales grew by 85%, to more than 60,000, compared with 2024.

In a total market up just 1.3% to 1,116,095, Chinese automakers’ torrid growth took their market share in Europe to 5.4%, only the second time it has been above 5%.

Their share was 3% in the same period last year and 4.6% in April 2025, figures from market researcher Dataforce show.

Xiaomi Automotive announced the lap time achieved by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra prototype during its second attempt here Nürburgring Nordschleife. With a time of 6:22.091, the car shattered its previous record by an astounding 24 seconds, securing a spot in the top three of the Nürburgring’s official overall leaderboard and becoming the fastest Chinese-branded electric vehicle on the Nordschleife.
