The intermediate casing of China's next-generation variable cycle engine. The intermediate casing of the next-generation variable cycle engine was exhibited at this year's Zhuhai Air Show. It has a typical three-ring flow channel design and measures 1349mm X 1357mm X 328mm. It is a joint design of Northwestern Polytechnical University and the Turbine Institute. The diameter of the casing is consistent with the 250KN-level thrust vector test bench mentioned by some people. The J-36 equipped with three ACE engines has a huge thrust and can maintain a supersonic cruise of more than Mach 2.5.

I thought J50 was smaller in length suprised to see it same sort of size (length) as J36!

It will be damn interesting if they can have the tail-fins behave that way. I am not convinced as i dont see how they can maintain structural integrity with that level of freedom of movement. I am hopeful it is true, that is real innovation and progress for sure, but it feels unrealistic to me ?

This is a super-sized J-20. Go from 2 engines to 3, and go from delta plus canard to a huge delta -- sacrifice even more manoeuvrability for capacity and range, but keep the speed. This is the PLAAF's response to expanding the use of the B-21 raider to the air to air role!
