I don't know about the overall air power of each side but how many airbases can US operate out in the Pacific? the answer is not many compared to China. China has a huge arsenal of hypersonic missiles that can target US bases anywhere in the pacific.China’s military has doubled its hardened aircraft shelters to over 3,000 and added extensive runways, the US military has added two since the early 2010s.

I mean in technology.
US will not have the range and sophistication of what China will have fielded like J-50 and J-36.
Too much money wasted on dead duck programs like F-35 and the US military-industrial complex is notoriously corrupt and inefficient.

The distance from the US mainland to Guam is greater than the distance from China to Guam.
The distance from the US West Coast to China is between 5,000 and 6,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean.China is only about 1,800 miles away from the island.

I don't think the US would dare to fight china by mid 2030s the US is currently consolidate it's power by trying to annex Canada and Greenland instead of picking a fight with china they know it's a losing cause. They don't want no smoke.

J-36 can cover the whole first and second island chains all the way up to Guam

IMO China is already number 1. J-20 is more advanced than F-22 with DSI and EOTS and quite a bit bigger than F-35 with two engines instead of one.
Lol. Even PLA themselves don't believe that. They have set up specific goals with specific dates to rival US military might on global scale.

It is already know it is named J-36. The prototype had the initial 36 which stands for J-36. The first J-20 prototype had the initial 20 which stands for J-20.
It's not about this, its them officially acknowledging the plane was a 6th generation fighter, so discussion on whether this is a fighter-bomber or a tactical bomber should be out of the window now.

But NGAD is US version of 6th gen. Both will have similarities but this is the step where China has caught up in development cycle. For example, previously, J-20 came out to service in 2017. F-22 came into service more than 10 years before that around 2006. Yes F-22 was a bit of a Cold war end relic and the F-35 is better representative of USAF 5th generation. After all, There are many hundreds of F-35s in USAF and USN service, approaching 1000.
Someone mentioned earlier than F-35 has close to 4000 orders/delivered? This is entirely false, it's around a quarter of that delivered and about half of that ordered. Still F-35 reached service not that long before J-20.
With respect to 6th gen, NGAD is not at advanced prototyping stage. China will take less than 7 years to bring all of its 6th generation fighters into service (J-36, Shenyang large CCA, and J-50) before NGAD reaches USAF service. Members can choose what they want to believe but NGAD is not even close to advanced prototyping stage yet. Only completed two or three tech demonstrators and went to review with intention to redesign and rethink. USAF hints from earlier today reinforce this take.

Official word from USAF on NGAD program and CAC + SAC 6th gens.
So NGAD had conventional 5th gen CCA coupling just like J-20S CCA coupling.
By that first NGAD piece (tech demonstrator they mentioned) it is not terribly different to what J-20S is. "F-35 follow on with focus on controlling CCAs"... that is literally what J-20S was designed for... a 5th gen base platform with second seat that commands squadrons of CCAs.
J-20 has been paired with GJ-11 and Dark Sword CCA. Dark Sword CCA has never seen the public light but enough official hints from PLAAF in the past indicated at least testing of Dark Sword. Maybe it was cancelled in favour of other paths such as this SAC manned 6th gen platform and SAC's new CCA pairing. Same big wigs talked about GJ-11's performance and utility back in 2019 after it was revealed TO BE IN SERVICE ALREADY! GJ-11 has seen more public light compared to Dark Sword (whatever the PLAAF designation is)... just that Dark Sword may have been replaced or scaled down. This all reminds me of DF-100. DF-100 revealed around 2019 and revealed recently to have been phased out in favour of HGVs. Speculated because DF-100 flies much slower, straighter than HGVs and flies too high and easily observed compared to HGV. I think Dark Sword is like DF-100, brought into service in limited numbers and trialed intensely until phased out in favour of whatever else. Certainly SAC's CCA + J-50 pairing is superior to Dark Sword + J-20 pairing.
The other NGAD mentioned by the USAF is focused on long range strike. That's the JH-xx concept equivalent, dash in fast and high, launch 1000km away against ground targets or thereabouts and maybe less than that against maneouverable air targets. It is now being considered for B-21 role. As in B-21 acting as that long range air to air platform.
NGAD seems to be evolving to a CCA, next gen stealth tanker, B-21 air to air focused platform, and if they haven't already scrapped it, a F-35S if you will with focus on being an agile command centre for CCA and whatnot.

As they see China's development speed and capability, they may now reassess and demand high end NGAD. Indeed NGAD developers best dream is CAC and SAC 6th gen prototypes publicly flying ahead of high tier NGAD version development cycle. Almost guaranteeing the funding they want.
