Chinese Aircraft Carriers - Liaoning, Shandong, Fujian and the future

Here is the embedded video from X. It will take another year for her to receive the air wing, but it's a good start and an excellent day for the Chinese Navy.

Special Note:

Xinhua News Agency's official press release explicitly states that "Xi Jinping personally decided to adopt electromagnetic catapult technology for the Fujian warship."

According to related news reports, the Fujian warship was originally designed based on a steam catapult system, and construction had already begun according to this design. However, China's electromagnetic catapult technology was rapidly developed and performed well in testing. The Fujian warship faced a significant decision-making challenge regarding this change.

The official statement that "Xi Jinping personally decided to adopt electromagnetic catapult technology for the Fujian warship" likely refers to this decision being made personally by Xi Jinping.

I am surprised that the Fujian catapult tech was actually decided by Xi, at the CCMC level. Maybe then Trump wants US navy to switch back to steam catapult is for real.

At the time, the Fujian aircraft carrier was already under construction with a steam catapult system. A hasty switch to EMALS would have faced numerous risks, including technical, financial, and deck operation procedures issues. Faced with such a significant change, no one but Xi Jinping dared to make such a drastic decision. ------ Failure would have had extremely serious consequences!

Even now that it's completed, some regrets remain unresolved. These problems can only be addressed on the next aircraft carrier.

The sea search radar on the bottom of the nose? This suggests that the anti-submarine variant of the Z-20F also possesses anti-ship capabilities.

The official announcement is here!
Exact date: November 5, 2025.

What is the plan for the Fujian after commissioning? When will we see it with its full complement of aircraft?

Considering the keel was laid in 2015/2016, launched in 2022, and commissioned in 2025, what can we expect the time line for the Type 004 carrier to be? Similar or longer due to its nuclear propulsion?
