Chinese Economy: General News, Updates and Discussions

Trade with the west is declining while with the rest of world fast growing, overall it's still growing significantly.

China exports: Global shipments rose 4.8% in May; inflow to US falls nearly 35%

Yes, but a lot of that increase in trade with countries like Vietnam and Mexico is for re-export to the US. With the new transhipment restrictions, imports from countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh and Mexico are likely to decline.

It is 45%. Not 100%. 55% is left for western countries.

The question is not how much is left for others to produce. The question is who will consume what China is producing. The Western countries are planning trillions of dollars in investments to build up industrial capacity. Once it is built up, they will have a tariff advantage against Chinese production and there will be huge global surplus capacity. So, either China has to consume all of its production itself or it has to find external markets or has to cut down production .

The total population of whole west camp is only 1/8 of world population. And western countries are getting poorer every each year.

Even the poorer countries don't want to be dependent on other countries for their manufacturing. Even if they were willing to, they need some way to get the money to pay for goods they will import for China.

Do you know why you almost can't find trash in China? Because trash is money.

China has built so many power plants that it now has no waste to burn.

China's waste-to-energy plan faces collapse due to lack of waste

The country invested heavily in plants to generate energy from waste, but slow growth left part of the infrastructure idle.

China has rapidly expanded its power plant network to generate energy from garbage, but now faces an unusual problem: there are more incinerators than solid waste availableWith more than a thousand plants in operation, a significant portion of them operate below capacity.

According to a report by Cinda Securities, Chinese plants operate, on average, at only 60% capacity. The supply of waste has grown in recent years, but at a slower pace than the accelerated construction of these plants. structures reflection of an optimism that disregarded recession, decline in urbanization and post-pandemic changes.

Too much capacity, too little waste

China has built so many power plants that it now has no waste to burn.

Since the 1980s, China has been known as the "world's garbage dump," importing waste from various countries. But that has changed. Instead of excess garbage, today the country has a surplus of incineration plants to generate energy and there is not enough material to feed them.

Thats nice to hear. I hope my country starts exporting garbage, alongside African and LatAm countries that have a waste problem. I think the term "world's garbage dump" is a positive connotation now, because China has pretty much solved the garbage problem.
But, thats not what I'm talking about. I'm mainly talking about the harmful industrial chemicals and gases that play a role in global warming and pollution.
The Yangtze, Pearl River Delta, Huaihe, Yellow rivers are still some of the most polluted rivers in the world. Chinese factories still dump the most amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. These facts aren't "western propaganda".
And also don't bring up third world shitholes like India, USA, Bangladesh here. This is a thread about China, and I see China of a much higher standard than I do other countries hence why I brought this up in the first place. I do believe China has the capabilities reduce its waste and pollution while still economically growing bigger, which is why I brought it up.
My question is why not crack down on the factories that dump these chemical waste into the rivers. And why not build more nuclear power plants instead of coal. Coal just makes China dependent on external sources from western aligned countries like Australia.

You can't ask Chinese to go back to live in pre-industrial age. China is manufacturing most industrial products for the world, much carbon emissions can't be easily escaped at the present. Besides, China is country with 1.4 billion people, so the country is a big emitter is only natural. You should first go ask the much richer US that is emitting twice carbons as China on per capita basis and some other countries to cut down their emissions on the earth to the level of average Chinese, then complain about China., emissions per capita does matter. US and some other countries are big and heavy polluters. The West has done the most pollutions to earth in the last 300 years, China just last 40 years.

Every country should solve its own garbage problem, don't expect China or others to do the dirty work for them.

If not western propaganda, where did you hear this crap from?

Chinese people are living two years longer thanks to ‘war on pollution,’

The fastest growing market is Africa. As for US and Europe, they need China more than China needs them, they can't survive a week without Chinese products.

That is great, but Africa's total expenditure is less than 3% of global expenditure. To sell 45% of total global production, you need access to markets that have the income to buy it.

The purchasing power of the emerging markets will increase fast in the coming years while the western market will be shrinking steadily. But anyway, the west needs China more than the otherwise, that's why US trade war on China never works.

Well, the trade war does not have a binary outcome. Sure, the West has not won, but it has certainly had some impact and China would have grown faster without the trade war.

Right now, China's trump card is the virtual monopoly on Rare Earths , but all other countries realise is and are working on developing alternatives . In a few years, alternate sources will emerge and China will not have the same leverage it does today.

China's dominance is unrivaled manufacuturing capacity, unbeatable cost effective quality products and global supply chains of all levels, not some raw material exports.
