Now it just needs to see if it will have an angled deck for simultaneous launch and recovery, two elevators and two launch positions. It already looks set to have two islands.

Even if it’s only meant to launch UAV/UCAVs (in PLAN Service) it will be a formidable platform.

A modest design like the USS FDR after its midlife refit. Just enough space for UAVs to land and not effect flight ops.

LHD/LHA role are for sending amphibious troop inland and perform both beach/air assault. You need to bunch a platoon size unit onshore on each operation and maintain the capability to support them.

UCAV and other platform were there as a supplementary effort, you need more focus on the welldeck if you are an LHD/LHA, because you cannot operate UCAV when you are in the middle of helicopter assault operation.

Well, that was the conclusion when the thread was started and not much was known about the Type 076 ... today, several months later we know surely more, but surely not enough to know what exactly it is; A full aircraft carrier it is not in the same way it is not really a "normal" LHD/LAH ... so maybe we should wait a bit more?

Or what is your conclusion and is your conclusion a commonly accepted one?

My conclusion is that considering the 076 uses a double island structure that focuses on aviation command capabilities, I think the 076 may be more inclined to operate fixed-wing aircraft, such as GJ-11, J-35, and it seems that it is closer to the design concept of 076 to regard it as a similar escort aircraft carrier or the previous concept of sea control ship of the United States.

Will the Type 076’s primary propulsion be Gas turbines or Diesel engines? Can we tell now that the island is being installed.

Gas turbines are more compact and could offer fuel savings, both freeing up space on the ship.
