Chinese Submarines News & Discussions

The Bohai's sailless submarine is of 16 meter wide, it is Soviet's Oscar class level, I think it is China's anti-ship ballstic missile carrier.

As for JiangNan's sailless submarine, someone believe it is for hunting US submarines.

Funny fact: China's 6th gen fighters are all tailless design, and China's next gen submarines are all sailless design, so basically we know believe less is better

Type 09X SSN cant be a new design and successor to Type 095 SSN because the gap is only a few months

maybe its a experimental SSN which will share technologies with Type 095 SSN

China is going unmanned under water with UUVs so this new SSN is probably to cover that because UUVs + AI is too new to work effectively with Type 095 SSN

also sail-less deigns means ultra quite based on pure speculation I would say it would be under 90dB lower than new Virginia Class and Sea Wolf for speed high speed operations

Type 095 SSN is probably close to or above Virginia Class and Sea Wolf in under water noise levels

China knows to break through 1st and 2nd island chains they need ultra low noise SSN to hunt other Americans SSN

and one of the most under rated USN threats are the US Nuclear submarines and China knows it and has actively developed a new ultra advanced SSN-X

China already mastered the X-tail and Pump Jet

now they moved to sail-less

this is VERY BIG NEWS

Some claims that pic was PSed by AI, and other claims it was just a regular Type 095.

BTW, it makes sense that both Type 095 and Type 09X are going to act as standard SSN, while China also needs many underwater missile containers SSGN similar to the Soviet Oscar class incorporating with the modern technologies.

China and the US have officially started the cold war style arm race, so both side are trying to pile up the nuclear submarine number anywhere to the 150-200 boats level.

Especially that China is trying to leverage its massive shipbuilding capability.

It's unlikely China is going to deploy more than 100 attack subs at one time in the near future. That costs too much.

Even Soviet Union had deployed over 100 nuclear submarines, and China's industrial prowess is several times of that of Soviet Union.

And with that pace of launching the nuclear submarines, it seems quite clear that China is heading to deploy over 100 nuclear submarines in the near future.

That's one reason the Soviet Union collapsed in the end.

They had rigid systems that could not triumph their western counterpart by adapting the free market system.

Not because they built too many nuclear submarines.

Many people often complain China for being too soft and not dare to build more nukes to counter the US.

And this is the perfect example that China has way more nukes than you imagine, but the only difference is that China won't waste time to talk with the US at all.

China has already launched the Type 095 on Feb 2026, and the Type 09X on May 2026, and the huge SSGN from Bohai has just launched 2 days ago, also two Type 093B being launched on Jan 2026 and May 2026 were not mentioned.

China has already launched five SSN boats in 5 months, and imagine the entire year of 2026.

But this time roles are reversed. USA is acting like USSR while China is holding back and only spending on defence what it can easily manage.

China always makes sure the cost of its nuclear submarine per hull is only a tiny fraction compared to that of the US.

And the US has also broken the nuclear proliferation norm by trying to sell the second hand Virginia class to its ally Australia.

And China should also capitalize this opportunity to provide nuclear submarines or its relevant technology to its allies.

And the rumor that China refuses to provide nuclear submarine technology to Pakistan came from India, most likely fake news.

t's right for China to build and deploy the minimum number of nukes that can at least take care of entire US and NATO at the same time, so about 1500 of them are needed. But, to deploy more than 100 attack subs alone and preferably nuke-powered is more than enough just for self-defense, unless China wants also to dominate globally or at least both Pacific and Indian oceans.

It makes sense. One thing that we have observed is that atleast for now (and except Pakistan and NK), china doesn't come for support of its allies. And maybe china is observing strategic restrain or something. But in the meantime it is loosing allies. Cuba, Venezuela, Iran... 3 of them gone. China could have atleast provided them free military equipment like drones and all. Even $1 billion worth of free military equipment per year could have strengthens them by a lot. USA is selling weapons openly to Taiwan. Why is china restraining from doing the same ?

That being said, I am off topic. But china need to look for its allies otherwise there will be no one left to come for your support when (not if) there is a future conflict between USA and China

If China is about to maintain a nuclear sub fleet of 30-40, then it should built 2-3 nuclear subs per year.

But now it has built more than 5 nuclear subs in half year, then we are extrapolating about a different story.

When the US sees this, they will refuse to retire all their aged boomers like LA class and Ohio class.

In the meantime, they will try to arm their vassals like Japan/Australia/South Korea/Philippines, and don't forget about India.

China is trying to build up an overwhelmingly powerful nuclear sub fleet with both quantity and quality advantages is not just for fun.

Xi Jinping will make a state visit to NK, and before his visit, NK suddenly announces that they are going to build 10,000 tons class super destroyer, maybe the pack of deal also includes the nuclear submarine technology, but they just cannot openly announce it.

If China has made the commitment to NK, then a similar one should be made for Pakistan, as NK is China eastern flank, and Pakistan is the western flank.

Yeah. probably China is going to deploy about 100 attack subs with about 50 SSN and about 15 type 096 and 094 SSBN.
