A wave of uncertainty has gripped Pakistan's military leadership as General Nadeem Anjum's one-year extension ended tonight, yet there has been no official confirmation regarding his departure from the role of DG ISI. This comes despite reports from last week stating that General Anjum would be stepping down at the conclusion of his extension.

General Nadeem Anjum, who initially retired a year ago, was granted a one-year extension, during which he continued to serve as the head of the ISI. Last week, sources claimed that General Anjum had decided to step down after the extension ended, but as of tonight, no official statement has been issued, leaving military circles in suspense.

This lack of clarity has triggered speculation and concern within the ranks, as many expected a smooth transition in line with military traditions. The delay in announcing his departure has not only raised questions about internal decision-making but also intensified discussions regarding the potential impact on the cohesion of military leadership.

The situation remains fluid, and it is yet to be seen how this leadership transition will unfold, with the military and the public alike awaiting an official statement.

So last night push for constitutional amendment was because Anjum wanted to finish Pakistan into deep shit.. reason why no news coming out

When Imran Khan wanted to keep General Faiz as the ISI head, even though he wasn’t due for retirement yet, the DG ISPR issued a statement saying that the entire army was unhappy if the PM didn’t replace him. Without even consulting the Prime Minister, the army went ahead and appointed a new DG.

Later, in October 2021, Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum was appointed as the new DG ISI after some delays and consultations. The DG ISPR confirmed the appointment, but it highlighted a clear tension between the military and civilian leadership over such key decisions

DGISI - Retired, on extension
COAS- Retired
CAS - Retired, on extension

CJP - Badly wants extension

The circus of power hungry corrupt individuals. What a joke this country and its military has become. Zero Professionalism.

Even the Air Chief is retired on extension.

To be honest I prefer retirement age should be increased at all level. It should not be specific to services chiefs or heads.
Retirement age should only be increased in cases where there is a shortage of manpower, which typically applies to countries where the population is declining. Pakistan, with a population of 250 million, has plenty of capable manpower sitting at home, doing nothing.
