Myanmar civil war is never ending affair. The majority Bamar people control half the country while many rebel groups control the rest. Some rebel groups are supported by the US like Karens and some by China like Wa State. Myanmar is very resource rich and has a lot of rare earth minerals that is all sent to China for processing and the mines are operated by the Chinese. China doesn't care who is in charge as long as their interests are protected.

Currently the Rohingya Muslims whom were previously genocided by the Bamar military (government) are now facing the same treatment by the Arakan Army

The largest and most powerful ethnic armed organizations and rebel groups in Myanmar include the Arakan Army (estimated at around 40,000 troops), the United Wa State Army (roughly 30,000 troops), and the Kachin Independence Army (tens of thousands of fighters). [1, 2, 3]
These groups lead major territorial control and anti-junta offensives. [1, 2]

Major Rebel Groups
    • Arakan Army (AA): Operates primarily in Rakhine State and parts of Chin State. It has grown into the most effective and largest non-state force in the region with roughly 40,000 personnel. [1, 2]
    • United Wa State Army (UWSA): Operates in Shan State. It commands a heavily armed de facto autonomous region with an estimated 30,000 active soldiers. [1]
    • Kachin Independence Army (KIA): Operates in Kachin State and northern Shan State. It is one of the oldest and most well-equipped ethnic resistance organizations. [1]
    • Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) & Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA): Key partners in the Three Brotherhood Alliance, fielding thousands of fighters and driving major offensives in northern regions. [1, 2]
    • Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA): Active along the southeastern border with Thailand, representing the long-standing Karen political struggle.
Human rights groups and international monitors have accused the ethnic Rakhine rebel group, the Arakan Army, of committing serious abuses, mass killings, and forced displacement against Rohingya civilians in Myanmar's Rakhine State. [1, 2, 3]
The Arakan Army has denied responsibility for these attacks. [1, 2]

Reported Attacks and Violations
    • Mass Killings: Investigations by organizations like Human Rights Watch documented attacks in townships like Buthidaung, including a May 2024 assault in Hoyyar Siri village where over 170 Rohingya—including scores of children—were reportedly killed or went missing. [1, 2]
    • Drone and Artillery Strikes: Rights monitors and news agencies reported coordinated drone bombings and shelling targeting Rohingya civilians fleeing conflict zones near riverbanks in August 2024. [1]
    • Arson and Destruction: Multiple Rohingya villages have been burned down and rendered uninhabitable during aggressive military campaigns for territorial control. [1, 2]

Local and Regional Impact
    • Forced Conscription and Labor: The Amnesty International organization and the United Nations report that Rohingya communities face severe movement restrictions, arbitrary detention, extortion, and forced labor under the de facto local authority of the Arakan Army. [1, 2]
    • Displacement: Tens of thousands of Rohingya have been displaced anew, with many attempting dangerous crossings into Bangladesh to escape the crossfire between the rebel forces and the Myanmar military junta. [1, 2]

The rebel groups are not all aligned against the government, In fact often the rebel groups would fight each other causing more disunity. Myanmar is just endless civil war thanks to the British creation.

China does not engage in formal, state-to-state military sales to the Wa State (the self-administered autonomous region in Myanmar controlled by the United Wa State Army), but Beijing provides extensive informal military backing, small arms, and strategic patronage. [1]

Nature of Chinese Support to Wa State
    • De Facto Relationship: Wa State operates as a self-governing polity bordering China's Yunnan province, relying heavily on Beijing for economic integration, currency, telecommunications, and political alignment. [1]
    • Arms and Equipment: While not commercial "sales" in the conventional international sense, the United Wa State Army (UWSA) is widely documented to be the primary recipient of Chinese-manufactured small arms, heavier weaponry, and ammunition, which flow across the porous border. [1]
    • Regional Influence: China utilizes this relationship to maintain a buffer zone on its border, manage local ethnic armed conflicts in Myanmar, and project regional influence without formally recognizing Wa State as an independent

The once powerful Shan state army is now divided in two. Many ethnic chinese use to fight for Shan state army and leader was Chinese too. Now they are divided in two. Wa state army remains the only ethnic chinese military in myanmar now.

The Shan State Army (SSA) in Myanmar is split into two primary factions—the Shan State Army - South (SSA-S) and the Shan State Army - North (SSA-N). [1]
Combined, their estimated military size ranges between 15,000 and 20,000 active fighters, distributed across the two distinct groups. [1, 2, 3]

Shan State Army - South (SSA-S)
    • Associated Political Body: Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS)
    • Estimated Strength: 8,000 to 12,000 active soldiers
    • Headquarters: Loi Tai Leng (Myanmar-Thailand border) [1, 2]

Shan State Army - North (SSA-N)
    • Associated Political Body: Shan State Progress Party (SSPP)
    • Estimated Strength: 8,000 to 10,000 active soldiers
    • Headquarters: Wan Hai (Kehsi Township, Shan State) [1, 2]
