What we’ve learned if the US cant stop Iran firing SAMs what chance do they have against a peer.

We and every other military in the world is learning a lot just we all are with the Russian-Ukraine War.

The difference here is our air force has a lot more experience than those of our rivals.

In a speculative conflict with China, numbers favor the Chinese. Experience favors the US. Granted, I will admit the Chinese have been doing an intense amount of training against AI opponents in the simulators. So have we.

Probably daft question to ask. US don’t need a huge fleet of expensive stealth Jets if you have air superiority around the globe, so just makes a lot sense to have a big fleet of non-stealth jets like build a new F16 viper that have the latest tech to participate in the modern battle-space. Case in point: B-52.

US is no more destined to fight the wars of 20th century and with peers like Somalia, Chad, yemen, Sudan etc.

This time it is expected to fight with Russia, Iran, China etc. Possibly even Europe (considering the route trump is taking regarding Greenland and all).

So no, it can not maintain air superiority today using jets of yesterday. It needs these modern fighter jets.

No offence to your brave pilots

The US Military is “ battle tested” against countries that can not begin to fathom countering U.S air power, the US hasn’t fought an opponent capable of reliably countering it since it fought the axis powers ww2.

You are so right , there are valuable lessons to be learned from US Desert Storm.

I’ve been saying on here for ages, Americans posters , like F22 Raptor absolutely fool themselves in thinking they are ready for anything close to a real war. China might not be battle tested but they have a massive modern military that would be facing US in their own backyard, personally no offence idk if the US even has the stomach for such a fight .

Unlike some posters here, I know fighter pilots. And, I know of some of the training they go through to the extent they are able to share without violating security. They are more than capable of taking the fight to any adversary.

I also concur that any fight against a capable adversary on their turf will be a tough one. Just as if they were to fight us on our own turf, it would be a bloody one.

You mentioned WWII. The Japanese pilots were no slouches either. The problem they had was a lack of advancement in aircraft nor did they rotate their pilots out to ensure new ones were being trained by experienced ones.

In Korea, it was a known fact the USAF often fought against MiGs piloted by Russians.
