'It is not healthy—nor responsible—to peddle fake defence news. We've noticed an alarming rise in Pakistani X (formerly Twitter) users masquerading as defence analysts, spreading misinformation to amplify fear among Indian citizens. Let’s set the record straight.

There is NO Chinese-Pakistani airfield being constructed in Bangladesh, let alone near the Siliguri Corridor.

The media hype surrounding this issue has been wildly exaggerated and lacks any factual basis.

Lalmonirhat does indeed host a large airfield, originally built by the British during World War II. I

t currently supports the Bangladesh Aerospace Research Centre (under the Bangladesh Air Force), as well as the Lalmonirhat Cantonment, home to an Army Aviation Base.

The Bangladesh government and Air Force envision developing an aerospace MRO and manufacturing hub in the area — a strategic initiative for our own growth, not aimed at India or any other third country.

We strongly urge foreign media outlets—especially those in Pakistan—to stick to facts. Fabricated stories like these are inflammatory, dangerous, and undermine Bangladesh’s national security.

Let it be known:

There is no "three-way allied partnership". Bangladesh maintains a sovereign and independent defence posture.

Response to False Report by Northeast News on "Military Operations Zone" in Southeastern Bangladesh

Dhaka, 01 June 2025 (Sunday): The article titled "Bangladesh to declare Cox’s Bazar to Bandarban area as a military operations zone" by Northeast News is a clear example of deliberate disinformation propagated by segments of the Indian media seeking to destabilize Bangladesh’s internal cohesion and undermine its armed forces.

The insinuation that the Bangladesh Army supports insurgent actors, is not only baseless but malicious. Such speculative reporting, devoid of evidence, reflects a broader agenda to sow discord and mislead the public.

The Bangladesh Army has always upheld the highest standards of professionalism and remains resolutely committed to protecting the nation’s sovereignty, integrity, and constitutional order. There will be no compromise on national interest—now or ever.

This narrative is not journalism; it is part of a sustained smear campaign. Bangladesh stands united and aligned firmly in defence of its people and its territory.

Fact checking an Indian media outlet from the press office of Chief Advisor of Bangladesh -

Controversial ‘Rights and Risks Analysis Group’ (RRAG) – a New Delhi-based organization– released a false report on June 6, 2025 alleging a wave of politically-motivated killings in Bangladesh. According to RRAG’s press release, “at least 123 members of the Awami League and its affiliate organisations… were victims of targeted murder under the regime of Dr. Muhammad Yunus from August 5, 2024 to April 30, 2025”. RRAG framed these killings as revenge attacks by supporters of Dr. Yunus.

PRAG also falsely claimed that the Interim government has restricted the OHCHR to “conduct an independent fact-finding inquiry into alleged human rights violations.

Read the report: https://archive.ph/0KH4e

Full Report: https://www.rightsrisks.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/BangladeshALOrganisedMurder.pdf

However, Most of the claims mentioned in PRAG Press Release are misleading and not supported by on-the-ground facts.

In support of its accusations, RRAG cited specific cases of alleged targeted murders. But, a close examination of cited case reveals that ordinary criminal or localized motives – not targeted political assassinations. Key details reported by local media and authorities directly contradict RRAG’s narrative, as explained below.

Nachol Double Murder (Dec 17, 2024) – RRAG claimed two youths, Masud and Rian, were killed by Yunus supporters for writing “Joy Bangla”. In reality, this was a local feud unrelated to politics. The victims’ family publicly refuted the political narrative, clarifying that the boys had “no involvement in Chhatra League” and were killed due to a clash between two neighborhood teenage groups. The victim’s father said the claims of political motive “completely fabricated”.

Murder of Arina Begum (Dec 5, 2024) – RRAG alleged that Arina, a 45-year-old mother, was hacked to death “just because her son was the local BCL president and in hiding.” Evidence points instead to a personal motive. After the killing, police quickly arrested her husband as the prime suspect. Investigators and local residents suspect an extramarital affair was behind the murder, not politics.

Death of Tofazzal (Sep 19, 2024) – RRAG claimed Tofazzal, a union-level Chhatra League leader from Barguna, was lynched by a student mob at DU in a politically motivated attack. However, this omits crucial context. Tofazzal was mentally ill and unaffiliated with any confrontation on campus. On the night of Sep 18, DU students at Fazlul Huq Hall mistook him for a thief, detained him, and beat him fatally when he gave incoherent responses. His identity was discovered posthumously – he had long suffered from mental illness and often wandered DU’s campus. This was not a targeted political murder at all. It was a tragic mob injustice by students (ironically, some of them reportedly BCL members themselves) who falsely labeled him a thief.

https://archive.ph/TBYIf

Beating Death of Abdullah Al Masud (Sep 8, 2024) – RRAG implied Masud, a disabled former BCL leader, was targeted despite being politically inactive. Yes, he was beaten to death by a mob in Rajshahi amid post-uprising tensions. The 35-year-old went to buy medicine for his newborn when locals accused him—wrongly—of attacking protesters on August 5. Though he had no charges against him, the mob fatally beat him.

Source: https://ghostarchive.org/archive/wubhT

Murder of Babar Ali in Bogura (Aug 13, 2024) – RRAG described Babar Ali (50s) as an Awami League activists who was abducted from his home and had his throat slit. This did occur – but local evidence indicates a personal vendetta, not a political hit job. Babar Ali was a small grocery shop owner in Bogura town. On Aug 13, several young men called him outside and took him away; by next morning his body was found. The victim’s daughter, Bina Akter, testified that her father had a long-running feud with some local individuals over his grocery business, and she “strongly believes they killed him because of that dispute”. Police also indicated past enmity was the likely motive and launched an investigation to identify the culprits.

It should be noted that this response pertains solely to the individual cases highlighted in the PRAG press release. A comprehensive analysis of the full report is currently in progress and will be released in due courses.

RRAG falsely claimed the interim government restricted the UN’s human rights investigation. In reality, Dr. Muhammad Yunus formally invited OHCHR on August 30, 2024, and fully cooperated. The February 2025 OHCHR report accused the previous government, under Sheikh Hasina, of ordering deadly crackdowns that killed up to 1,400 people. Contrary to RRAG's claim, the report does not state that most victims were Awami League supporters, nor that relatives were silenced by fear. Fact-checkers confirmed RRAG’s claim of “750 AL deaths” is based on a fabricated UN list. The 144-name list submitted by AL was noted but not verified by the UN. RRAG distorted these facts to push a false narrative of persecution.

Source: https://archive.ph/ZMiPg

However, such misleading report by PRAG is nothing new. RRAG and its director Suhas Chakma have past of spreading anti Bangladesh disinformation favoring the fallen Awami League. In May 2025, RRAG falsely claimed 640 journalists were targeted; the government refuted this as misleading, clarifying that legal actions were mostly linked to laws enacted under the former regime and that no systemic media repression exists.

In another case, RRAG exaggerated casualties in Chittagong Hill Tracts clashes—claiming 9 indigenous deaths, which an allied group inflated to 67—while credible reports confirmed only 4, as shown in DismisLab’s “From Four to a Hundred”.

RRAG’s claims of a systematic killing campaign against Awami League members don’t hold up to the facts.

Indian/Awami disinformation aside, I have began to notice that there are a few Bangladeshi social media pages are posting utter nonsensical content. Sometimes even supporting Indian narratives.

This video is a prime example.

Some people tend to overplay the U.S hand while missing to see the big picture and where we stand. Utter nonsense that some people actually buy into.

since we are talking about "A bitter pill" dare i say that i havent heard a single word from you about the condition of minority bangladeshi hindus or what happened in murshidabad in your very own bengal ruled by DIDI
If you want to swallow Sanghi propaganda and then regurgitate it, that is up to you. It has been pointed out again and again that the vast majority of scare stories about Bangladeshi Hindus being hounded fall into one of two categories:
  • Totally fictitious, inserted by Godi Media journalists hungry for TRPs;
  • Aimed at a general attack on Awami League supporters.
However much we might deplore the current atmosphere in Bangladesh towards the Awami League and its supporters, action against that party and its supporters has nothing religious about it.

As far as Mamata Bannerjee is concerned, there is enough mud on both sides and there are enough motivated idiots slinging around that mud to require any separate mention on any forum whatsoever.

I don't know why you dragged in the anti-Naxal campaign and its casualties among the Naxals into your other wild remarks. Perhaps someone familiar with the thinking of sycophants of the present bigoted and intolerant regime ruling at the centre might find a connection. For others, it is difficult.

One piece of advice: try to avoid hit-and-run posts. Deleting an unwise post after posting it is not effective.

Statement from the office of Chief Advisor debunking Indian media propaganda

The widely circulated claim about an attack by local Muslims on a Hindu temple in Khilkhet, Dhaka, is misleading.

Dozens of social media accounts, mostly linked to pro-Hindutva misinformation networks, propagated the false narrative, framing the incident as an act of religious persecution under Bangladesh’s interim government and even invoking Talibanization.

The actual dispute began when a group of Hindus attempted to construct a temple on government-owned (Khas ) land, leading to objections from local residents. The altercation remained verbal, but misleading reports portrayed it as a violent attack or an attempt to remove idols, where there was no temple before.

A key-frame analysis of viral videos matched an image from a Bangla Tribune report titled “Ultimatum from worshippers to remove temple in Khilkhet, police trying to mediate”, published at 1:31 AM on Tuesday. However, the report did not include eyewitness testimonies and was based solely on a Facebook post and photos shared by an individual named Suman Sudha.

SEE: https://archive.ph/GQNfi

Crucially, the article omitted the fact that the dispute stemmed from an attempt to build a temple on government land.

Several accounts amplified the false narrative, including Voice of Bangladeshi Hindus, Bangladesh Hindus on X (formerly Twitter), and the Facebook group World Hindu Federation.

See the claims:
See claims: https://archive.ph/G2xEJ

In one post, SPARROW falsely claimed, “Dr. Yunus is protecting Islamist extremists and allowing them to attack temples,” adding that the incident was part of “a coordinated campaign of religious persecution under a government that refuses to defend its minorities.”

Voice of Bangladeshi Hindus posted a video alleging, “If the temple is not removed by tomorrow, they will demolish it and have threatened to slaughter Hindus in Dhaka. We, the Hindus of Bangladesh, appeal to the international community for help. Please protect our places of worship from the Jamaat-backed government.”

Similarly, Bangladesh Hindus posted, “Visuals are coming in from Khilkhet, Bangladesh. Thousands of Islamists have gathered outside a Durga temple, demanding the removal of the Durga idol. They claim that seeing the idol is ‘haram’ for them.”

However, local residents and authorities refuted these claims. Mohiuddin, Divisional Manager (DRM) of Bangladesh Railway, clarified, “We are aware of the attempt to build a temple on government land. We have given seven days for the materials-- assembled to build a temple-- to be removed from the spot.”

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Kamal Hossain of Khilkhet Police Station confirmed, “There was a verbal dispute between locals and those trying to build the temple. No attack occurred. Law enforcement has the situation under control. The railway authorities will resolve the matter.”

The incident was a land dispute, not a religious attack, but misinformation networks exploited it to fuel communal tensions with baseless allegations of violence and persecution.

From Chief Advisor's Press Wing

The India-based online news outlet Northeast News reported on November 8 that a 9,000-member private militia, led by adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, was being prepared to be deployed in Dhaka between November 10 and 13, wearing police uniforms, in connection with the Awami League’s planned “Dhaka Lockdown” program on November 13.
According to the report, the decision was allegedly made amid fears of potential violence surrounding the Awami League’s announced protest program.
See the report:
However, an investigation by The Dissent found that the claim of deploying a private militia in Dhaka is unfounded.
See:
On Saturday, November 8, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a large-scale drill simultaneously at 142 key locations in the capital, with approximately 7,000 police officers participating.
According to the police, the drill was part of their routine operational activities.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman stated: “This is part of our regular security drill — a form of force mobilization that we routinely conduct.”
See:
Therefore, no private militia was deployed in Dhaka; the increased police presence observed that day was part of a scheduled security exercise.
Further investigation shows that although the interim government has launched a program to provide basic self-defense and firearms training to around 9,000 young men and women, the training has not yet commenced.
A notice published by the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) under the Ministry of Youth and Sports states that the training program is scheduled to begin on November 22, 2025.
See:
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan explained that the initiative is a pilot project aimed at training young people to strengthen national security.
According to him:
“This is not a force. After completing the training, no one will be provided with weapons or recruited anywhere. They will return to their regular workplaces after the training. Their information will be retained only so they can be contacted if any situation arises.”
In summary, while the government has initiated a self-defense training program for youths, the training has not yet started, and participants will neither be armed nor organized into any militia after its completion.
