China's tire supply chain bets nearly 40 billion yuan on Egypt in full-chain overseas push

China's tire industry is staging an upgraded version of cluster-style overseas expansion in Egypt. Since the start of 2026, at least six Chinese tire and supply-chain companies have announced increased commitments to Egypt, with combined planned investment approaching 40 billion yuan (approximately $6.0 billion). The concentration of destinations and the scale of individual projects are unprecedented in the history of Chinese tire manufacturing going abroad.

This marks the second-largest overseas cluster for China's tire industry after Southeast Asia. But unlike the path taken a decade ago into Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia, the core logic of this investment wave is no longer simply about finding cheaper factories. Instead, against a backdrop of rising global trade barriers, it is about building a multi-polar production network and a supply-chain system positioned closer to end markets.
