Elon Musk hints Tesla FSD for China may be possible very soon

Hacked?

Hacked to be used in Moldova??? lol

Yes!!!

I think I can use it in Indonesia as well then. lol

People buy crashed Teslas and using pieces from multiple cars attempt to rebuild a single one. They found a mangled US Tesla that had FSD still enabled in its computer and shoehorned it into their parts car and using some hacking tricked the car into thinking it was driving around in Canada instead of Europe.

Exclusive: Tesla makes push to roll out advanced FSD self-driving in China

May 30 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab is preparing to register its 'Full Self-Driving' software with authorities in China in the run up to its planned rollout of the technologically advanced feature this year, three people with knowledge of the matter said.
The U.S. electric vehicle maker is also considering selling the software as a monthly subscription to users of its cars in China, its second-largest market, they said.

A successful software registration with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will pave the way for Tesla to internally test Full Self-Driving (FSD) by having its employees drive on China's public roads before delivering it as an upgrade to its Chinese users in the coming months, said two of the people. The company currently offers two, less-advanced versions of its Autopilot driver assistance system in China.

Tesla currently offers owners of its vehicles access to FSD for a one-time 64,000 yuan ($8,828.32) fee. It may also offer the service for a monthly fee equivalent to about $98 in the future, they said.
Reuters has reported previously that Tesla is also considering licensing FSD to other automakers in China.
FSD sales in China would open a new source of revenue for the EV maker, which has seen its sales volumes there fall by 7.6% in the first four months of the year in the face of increased discounting and competition by Chinese EV makers.

Tesla's push to roll out FSD in China also would "pressure other EV startups to accelerate their research and development”, said Yale Zhang, managing director at Shanghai-based consultancy Automotive Foresight.
Tesla did not respond to a request for comment. The sources asked not to be named because the plans are private.
The previously unreported schedule for the rollout comes as Tesla is doubling down on efforts to power the global development of its self-driving system with data collected and processed in China, part of a strategic shift by CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla China to test 10 FSD vehicles ahead of expected public rollout: report

Tesla’s efforts to release its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system in China seems to be moving forward. As per recent reports, Shanghai’s Nanhui New Town is facilitating 10 Tesla vehicles that would be carrying out an FSD pilot.

In its report, Chinese media outlet Shanghai Observer noted that the update was related by Lu Sen, the director of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Lingang New Area Administrative Committee’s data department. The publication, however, did not provide details such as the date when the reported FSD pilot program would reportedly commence in China.

Back in May, reports emerged stating that Tesla China was preparing to register FSD with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). At the time, speculations were high that Tesla was preparing to roll out FSD to the Chinese market sometime this year. After Tesla registers FSD with the MIIT, the EV maker is expected to start internal FSD testing on public roads.

In a lot of ways, Tesla has been laying the foundation for the release of FSD in China. Back in 2021, Tesla set up a data center in Shanghai. The facility gathers data from the Tesla fleet in China. It also stores information related to Tesla China’s production data, sales data, service data, and charging data, as noted in a CNEV Post report. The data centers allows Tesla China to comply with regulatory requirements as well.

Elon Musk himself has shown some optimism about FSD’s eventual rollout in China. During his surprise visit to the country in late April, Musk met with a number of key government officials. Musk’s meetings sparked speculations that FSD’s rollout to China were discussed. At the same time, it was also announced that Tesla, together with other carmakers like BYD, have met all data processing requirements in the country.

China is the world’s largest and most competitive auto market. Thus, a system like FSD could have the potential to give Tesla China an edge in the domestic auto market. The size of the Tesla fleet in China, which is estimated at over 1.7 million in the last 10 years, could also provide the electric vehicle maker with valuable real-world data that could further improve FSD’s capabilities.

Shanghai's Nanhui facilitating 10 Tesla cars for FSD pilot use

Shanghai's Nanhui New Town is facilitating 10 Tesla vehicles to carry out the pilot use of FSD (Full Self-Driving), local media SH Observer said today, citing Lu Sen, director of the data department of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Lingang New Area Administrative Committee.

Tesla's cross-field application proves that cutting-edge products such as smart new energy vehicles (NEVs) have a very obvious boost to other related industries, the report said.

The report did not provide more details on FSD or when the 10 Tesla vehicles will be ready to begin pilot use of FSD

Here we go @Menthol There are around 1.7Million Teslas on China's roads that are FSD capable.

Shanghai allows Tesla to carry out Full Self-Driving pilot

BEIJING, June 14 (Reuters) - Shanghai is allowing 10 Tesla vehicles to carry out tests of the company's most advanced autonomous driving software to pave way for its rollout in China, local-government-backed The Shanghai Observer said on Friday.

A successful rollout of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software would allow Tesla to better compete with local rivals in China, and could turn the world's largest auto market into a battlefield for less expensive driver assistance features, intensifying a price war.

Tesla has been offering FSD for subscription in China for four years but with a restricted set of features.

Remember this camera-only system was lambasted for years by Chinese PDF members as "unworkable without LiDAR pre-mapping of all roads". Meanwhile Chinese EV manufacturers have been incredibly slow rolling out LiDAR systems of their own to Chinese consumers.

It seems the development quite slow.

At minimum, it will take half a year up to one year before it will be released for Shanghai only.

I think Tesla should be more aggressive, purposing more cities.

China is not as open as the US in terms of letting consumers widely use full self driving

Tesla expects FSD approval in China by year-end

Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) FSD (Full Self-Driving) is expected to make its way to China by the end of this year, set to make the competition in the smart driving space in the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) market more interesting.

Tesla is likely to get regulatory approval to launch FSD in other markets such as Europe and China by the end of this year, the US EV maker's CEO Elon Musk said on an earnings call earlier today.

The company reported $25.5 billion in revenue in the second quarter, up 2.3 percent year-on-year and up 19.71 percent from the first quarter. Gross profit for the second quarter was $4.578 billion, up 0.99 percent year-on-year and up 23.86 percent from the first quarter.

Over the past few months, there have been growing signs that FSD is closer to entering China.

In late April, Musk made an unannounced visit to China. At the time, Bloomberg reported that he aimed to seek FSD approval to help stem Tesla's revenue decline.

In an April 29 report, Bloomberg said Tesla cleared a key hurdle to launching advanced assisted driving features in China by partnering with Baidu on mapping and navigation features.

He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of one of Tesla's main rivals, Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), said at the time that he would be happy to see FSD come to China because more good products and technology can make the sector better.

Tesla to launch FSD in China in Q1 2025

US electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla plans to launch FSD (Full Self-Driving) in China early next year, a slight delay from previous plans.

Tesla plans to launch FSD in China and Europe in the first quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approval, Tesla's AI team's account, @Tesla_AI, said on social media platform X today.

The EV maker's CEO, Elon Musk, said on an earnings call in July that Tesla would likely receive regulatory approval to launch FSD in other markets, including Europe and China, by the end of this year.
