French official says Pakistan downed Rafale jet as officials examine possible further losses

From CNN’s Saskya Vandoorne in Paris
A high-ranking French intelligence official told CNN today that one Rafale fighter jet operated by the Indian Air Force was downed by Pakistan, in what would mark the first time that one of the sophisticated French-made warplanes has been lost in combat.

Pakistan claimed earlier today to have shot down five Indian Air Force jets in retaliation for Indian strikes, including three Rafales. Indian officials are yet to respond to the claim.

The French official told CNN that French authorities were looking into whether more than one Rafale jets were shot down by Pakistan overnight.

Pictures taken of parts of an aircraft that crashed in Indian-administered Kashmir show the label of a French manufacturer, but experts said it was not possible to say whether the part came from a Rafale aircraft.

Dassault Aviation, the French manufacturer of the jet, has not responded to CNN’s requests for comment.

Some background: The Rafale is a 10-ton, twin-engine multirole fighter, equipped with a 30mm cannon for air combat and ground support, along with air-to-air missiles, laser-guided bombs, and cruise missiles.

Before this latest escalation, India had 36 Rafale jets in its Air Force, purchased from French manufacturer Dassault Aviation.

The French military has not officially commented on the incident.
Just attaching the link to the story just in case anyone refuses to believe it.

I can't doubt that possibly 1 Indian jet was downed and in all probabilities, taking into account the Indian air force track record, was most probably downed either due to pilot incompetence or some other crazy only applicable to Indian air force reason. The truth regarding that will have to emerge soon. Too much hype on this forum about 5 jets being downed, some Indian soldiers being captured etc. and all that without any evidence. It seems that Pakistanis are hyping over fake news just to satisfy themselves that they emerged on top when we all know that is not true. Sorry folks but let's stick to reality and not celebrate dreams
Yeah maybe just 1 eh😂and even that for some other reason than being shot down😂and u think everyone else needs to stick to reality!!??😂This is what Bollywood overdose does to your brain😂

Any indian journalist like shiv aroor or any of their mainstream media news channels accepted this loss of a rafale publicly after this evidence?
Not until the Indian gov't agrees, and understandably so. Ultimately, we're just dealing with claimed videos, claimed photos, and claimed quotes. The available data may inch one closer towards probability, but it isn't certainty, and that's the key.

If this news is even 99% probable, I'd respect someone for denying it even then. Yes, I'd carry the view that they're wrong, but I wouldn't indict or fault them for it because, at the end of the day, it's not certain or 100%.

Agreed, but doesn't the serial number absolutely confirm atleast a single Rafale kill?

It's a picture claiming to be a photo of a jet we claim was shot down. There's (IMO) still quite a bit of uncertainty in that chain. The supposed engine wreckage was stronger, and, IMO, that inches it towards probability for me, but it isn't certainty.

I find it quite astonishing how irrelevant the much hyped SU-30MKI has been rendered by PAF. Their new tip of the spear Rafale is now globally acknowledged to have been blown out of the skies as admired by even senior French intelligence officials to CNN.
