Abdul Basir says his family learnt of Nazrul's execution from media reports, while questions remain over the charges and legal proceedings against him

Abdul Basir borrowed Tk 7 lakh to send his eldest son, Nazrul Islam, 22, to Saudi Arabia, hoping he would find work and lift the family out of poverty. But just six months after leaving home in search of a better future, Nazrul was detained by Saudi authorities. More than three years later, the family says, it learnt from media reports that he had been executed in Makkah on October 14. Now, burdened by the debt he took on to secure his son's future, Basir is grieving his loss and pleading for the return of his body.

“The creditors are now pressuring me to repay the debt. I want my son’s body brought back home. If he was executed without just cause, I want justice,” Basir said.
The family lives in Birampur village under Sultanpur union of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila. Relatives allege that Saudi authorities executed Nazrul without informing them beforehand or allowing him to defend himself.

Nazrul’s mother, Rahima Begum, has repeatedly broken down in tears since learning of her son’s death.

The family also said Nazrul’s paternal aunt, Abeda Begum, died of a heart attack last Wednesday night after hearing the news.
Nazrul, the eldest among four siblings, left for Saudi Arabia on November 10, 2022, and worked as a cleaner in the kingdom.

According to his family, Saudi police arrested Nazrul and a young woman named Sweety Akhtar over allegations of an “immoral act” at a mosque in Makkah. Nazrul remained in detention for about three years and three months.

Nazrul’s mother said he spoke to the family by phone every Sunday while in prison, but they were given no advance notice of his execution.

The charges against Nazrul and whether he received legal assistance or an opportunity to defend himself before the execution could not be independently verified.
The family has urged the government to investigate the circumstances of Nazrul’s execution and arrange the return of his body at state expense. Neighbours have also called for the family to be supported.

Local residents Mostakim and Mainuddin expressed dissatisfaction over the reported circumstances of the execution, saying the question of whether he was allowed to defend himself should be examined.

They said Saudi Arabia had adopted more liberal policies in several areas and argued that its legal and judicial processes should also be open to review. They urged the governments of Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia to support Nazrul’s family.

Asked about the matter, Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Sayeed said, “We have received no instructions from the administration, and the family has not submitted any application either. If the body is brought back to Bangladesh, we will assist according to the rules, as he was a resident of Brahmanbaria.”

‘She said she might be released’: Tangail family desperate to know Sweety Akhtar’s fate in Saudi Arabia

Sweety called home from a Saudi jail just 15 days ago, her father says. The family is seeking official confirmation amid reports that she has been executed.

Nearly four years ago, Fazal Mia borrowed Tk 1.5 lakh to send his youngest daughter, Sweety Akhtar, to Saudi Arabia. Today, the day labourer from Tangail is waiting for official confirmation of news that no father would want to hear -- that his daughter has reportedly been executed.

The family recently learned from others that Sweety, who reportedly received a death sentence in Saudi Arabia, had been executed. But without any official confirmation, they remain uncertain about her fate.
Fazal, a resident of Nagar Chhawali village in Mahera union of Tangail’s Mirzapur upazila, recalled how his daughter initially sent money home before the family received troubling news.
“She sent money home for the first five months. One day, she called and told us she had been sent to jail,” Fazal told The Daily Star.

According to him, Sweety said she had been framed and imprisoned following an argument with other female workers in Saudi Arabia. The family then lost contact with her for about a year.

Fazal said Sweety later began calling home again, usually once a month, but never told the family about her trial or sentence.

“During one of her last calls, she said she might be released from jail in two months. She called us from jail as recently as 15 days ago. Even then, she said nothing about her sentence,” he recalled.
The family learned two days ago that Saudi authorities had reportedly executed Sweety, but said they had received no official notification from the Bangladesh government.

The foreign ministry recently said it had learned of the execution of two Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia but had been unable to confirm their identities.

“We do not know what has happened to my daughter. We do not even know whether she is alive or dead. We have only heard rumours,” Fazal said.

Sweety’s mother, Johura, said her daughter was divorced and had a four-year-old daughter. After Sweety left for Saudi Arabia, her elder sister, Beauty, took responsibility for raising the child.

“I want the government to tell me what has happened to my daughter. I want her back. Whether she is alive or dead, I just want my daughter back,” Johura said.

Mahera Union Parishad chairman Bibhas Sarkar and Mirzapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun said they had received no information about Sweety from the government.

This land should be fought brother, not freed/liberated. We have seen nothing but fitna and terrorism coming out of this wahabi desert. What AnsarAllah is doing is a start. The main war is against the British, US and the jews who use it as a proxy and try to give it a liberal face, hiding atrocities and massacres in their media. Justice will reach them soon.

Here are the summary of the facts from a witness;

1) The individuals involved are Nazrul Islam and Sathi Akhtar from Bangladesh. They were not pilgrims. They were cleaners employed by the Bin Laden Company at the Masjid al-Haram.

2) They committed adultery in a deserted room on the stairs between gates 85 and 87 of the mosque. Get this clear. This was not kissing. Not hugging. Not cuddling. Full penetration of the two private parts happened right inside the sacred sanctuary.

3) An Indian friend stood guard and recorded a video of the act. He only leaked the footage to the public after his own demand to also commit adultery with the girl was rejected.

4) The timeline exposes the lies. The offense happened in May 2023. The judicial proceedings and investigations lasted nearly four years until October 2026. This was not some rushed jungle justice.

5) Saudi authorities arrested all three people. The Indian accomplice received a 20 year prison sentence for his role.

6) Both individuals were unmarried. The viral story claiming they were a married couple performing Umrah is a complete fabrication designed to fuel outrage.

7) The Supreme Court issued the death penalty as a deterrent. This was not a normal case of adultery. It was a severe and intentional desecration of the sanctity and honor of the Masjid al-Haram.

It is the offense that is extreme. Stop supporting the desecration of the sanctuary just because you hate the religion. Do not allow your bias make you a defender of abominations.

Plenty of hotels nearby but they chose to do the bad acts in the mosque.
Punishments after the act.
Case closed.
